Brief Description of the project/ unit
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a global service provider in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development dedicated to shaping a future worth living around the world. As a public-benefit federal enterprise, GIZ supports the German Government – in particular the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) – and many public and private sector clients in achieving their objectives in international cooperation in around 120 countries.
Since 2004, GIZ has been a reliable and trusted partner of the African Union (AU) to enhance inclusive growth and sustainable development on the African continent in line with the AU’s Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want. With more than 250 staff, GIZ African Union cooperates with the AU Commission, as well as the AU’s specialized institutions and agencies, such as the Development Agency AUDA-NEPAD, at continental, regional and national level in more than 40 member states. Key areas of engagement include Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention, Governance, Sustainable Economic Growth, Health and Social Development, as well as Just Transition.
The Data Cipation programme supports the African Union in advancing its digital transformation agenda. One of its components contributes directly to the implementation of the Team Europe project “Data Governance in Africa.” Data Cipation leads this Team Europe project, which has a total volume of EUR 60 million and is co-funded by the EU, Germany, Finland, Belgium, France and Estonia. A dedicated Project Management Unit (PMU) coordinates the contributions of the European implementing partners and serves as the main interface with the EU (DG INTPA).

Responsibilities and Duties
The Knowledge Management Advisor will be part of the PMU of the Team Europe Action “Data Governance in Africa.” The role focuses on supporting project coordination tasks through strong knowledge management, monitoring, evaluation and reporting processes
Key responsibilities include:
- Planning, organizing and coordinating meetings and events, including team and thematic meetings, the annual Strategic Steering Committee and high-level stakeholder engagements
- Facilitating effective collaboration and working processes among the project team and the various implementing partners (Germany, Finland, Belgium, France and Estonia)
- Coordinating, consolidating and supporting the preparation of knowledge products, such as monthly activity implementation updates to the EU and regular implementation highlights for partners
- Ensuring quality and timely submission of action plans, reports and knowledge products through structuring, editing, proofreading and repurposing content
- Managing and continuous proof checking the completion and accuracy of data sets in the MS Teams-based knowledge management platforms and tools
- Supporting data compilation and consolidation in relevant management and reporting systems, such as the EU OPSYS project results platform and capacity development tools
- Maintaining and regularly updating project databases and internal knowledge management tools, including contact lists, team organigramme and mailing groups
Qualifications
- Completed university degree (bachelor or master); specializations in development studies, international relations or digitalization are an asset
Professional experience
- Excellent command of English, with the ability to communicate complex issues clearly and convincingly, both in writing and orally
- Proven professional experience in knowledge management and results (impact) communication, with a strong focus on process coordination and cross-institutional collaboration
- Experience working in EU funded projects are an advantage
- Basic understanding of digital transformation issues
- Strong analytical, planning, organizational, communication and social skills
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders in an international context
- Proactive and reliable team player who actively takes initiative and supports shared objectives
- High level of computer proficiency (Microsoft Office; layout and design skills are an asset)
