Job Description

Summary

Seefar is seeking a Journalist / Videographer / Editor based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to produce a beneficiary storytelling video package under the MML project.

Seefar has conducted a project in Ethiopia to support people considering irregular migration through providing 1/1 counselling, information, and access to alternatives and skills training, so they can make safer and more informed decisions, and build a brighter future in Ethiopia. The project seeks to gather stories through interviews and videos of consulted beneficiaries who benefited from training to help show the impact of the project and to inform others.

The video will combine multiple perspectives around one beneficiary journey:

  • the beneficiary
  • the counsellor who supported them
  • the trainer who led their skills training

This multi-voice approach aims to strengthen credibility, depth, and narrative clarity, while maintaining ethical, human-centred storytelling.

The assignment will focus on respectful, ethical storytelling and will result in both long‑form and short‑form video outputs. The resulting videos will support Seefar’s communications and donor engagement efforts and will be published on Seefar’s website and social media channels.

The consultant will report to the Strategic Communications Lead and coordinate closely with the Project Coordinator for local logistics.

Key Responsibilities

Video Production & Editing

  • Film beneficiary interviews and contextual B‑roll footage
  • Edit and package video content for website and social media use
  • Maintain high production quality and ethical standards

Storytelling & Editorial

  • Conduct interviews in a sensitive, participant‑centred manner
  • Craft a clear and engaging narrative highlighting programme impact
  • Ensure alignment with Seefar’s tone, values, and messaging

Coordination & Reporting

  • Coordinate logistics with the Project Coordinator

Deliverables

Priority deliverable (Donor event)

  • One 4 to 5-minute video
    • Landscape format (MP4)
    • English subtitles
    • Multi-voice narrative (beneficiary + counsellor + trainer)
    • FINAL delivery by 4–5 March (non-negotiable due to external event)

Secondary deliverable (post-event)

  • One 1-minute vertical video
    • Reel / social format
    • English subtitles or AI voice-over
    • Can be finalised after the donor event if needed

Timeline

  • This assignment follows a fixed and time-critical timeline due to a confirmed donor screening on 6 March.
  • The selected videographer will be contracted by 3 February, with one day of filming scheduled between 5–8 February.
  • A first cut of the 5-minute video is due on 12 February, followed by two structured revision rounds.
  • The final approved 5-minute video must be delivered by 4–5 March for screening at the donor event. A shorter social media cut will be finalised after the event.
  • Applicants must confirm their availability to meet this timeline.

Essential Criteria

  • Fluency in Amharic and English
  • Experience as a journalist, videographer, or editor
  • Strong storytelling skills in humanitarian or development contexts
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multi-stakeholder storytelling and deliver time-critical edits for public screenings

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous work with NGOs or donor‑funded projects
  • Proven experience interviewing sensitive or vulnerable populations
  • Experience producing short‑form social media videos
  • Familiarity with ethical storytelling and safeguarding principles

Budget

Applicants must submit an all-inclusive financial quote for the full scope of work described. Proposals will be assessed based on value for money, relevant experience, and the ability to meet the required timeline.

Seefar anticipates a budget range of 1,200 to 1,400 USD for this assignment, inclusive of filming, editing, revisions, subtitles, and any local logistics. Applications significantly outside this range may not be considered.
