Job Description

Background

Population Media Center is a US-based international nonprofit organization that specializes in developing a research-based multimedia communication strategy for social development.  PMC uses entertaining education and mass media to empower people to live healthier and more prosperous lives.  PMC-Ethiopia was established in 2000 and has impacted lives across Ethiopia for nearly two decades.  Currently, PMC-E is implementing Gender Inclusive C4D WASH and Nutrition project in partnership with UNICEF, in nine Woredas in five regions.

Thus, the organization seeks to invite all interested professionals who satisfy the requirements for the Position of Senior Communication Officer.

Job summary

Reporting to the Country Director, the Senior Communication Officer responsibilities are to maintain complete awareness of PMC’s services to public at large, creation of favorable image and good will through innovative and proactive communications.  S/he keeps records of the organization’s development and important events.  Prepare promotional materials and assist in fund-raising activities.

Duties and responsibility

  • Formulate policies, guidelines, strategies, methodologies and action plans related to communications and network activities.
  • Performs all communication related activities to maintain sound and strong relations between PMC, stakeholders and the beneficiaries.
  • Gather the necessary data and develop special radio, television, and print campaign programs to be used for awareness creation and behavioral changes in the community on all activities and general health issues.
  • Provide technical and professional assistance to different PMC projects in the designing and development of communication strategy and coordination of digital/social and mass media programs.
  • Provide the necessary technical and professional support to PMC projects in developing messages, outlines and program contents, rapid assessment monitoring, evaluation, and IPC tools to be implemented at federal and regional levels.
  • Work closely with Project Coordinators and Senior Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Expert, government entities and other stakeholders to design and implement strategies for communication participation in improving the general health.
  • Provide detailed and accurate written data inputs for inclusion in the project technical and financial reports prepared at the end of each reporting period.
  • Closely follow-up effective implementation of all projects campaign programs including assessment of their impact in line with the project design.
  • Make visits regional health bureau, woreda health centers, and health extension workers to discuss on the modalities, community participation and the possible challenges.
  • Prepare work plan which would guide implantation of the programs
  • Prepare timely periodic reports on the implementation of program activities including monitoring and evaluation project.
  • Fully participate in and provide technical support in all PMC program development and discussion and their eventual implementation modalities.

Employment Duration: Short term employment for 6 months with possible extension

Job Requirements

Requirement and Skill

  • Advanced degree in communications, social sciences, public health, or related fields
  • More than 5 years of proven work experiences in the fields
  • Excellent knowledge in designing and production of communication materials
  • NGO Experience in the fields
  • Knowledge in cross-cultural awareness and public health issues
  • Ability to interact and deal with people.
  • Excellent planning, organization, analytical and decision making skills.
  • Good communication skills; team work; excellent report writing, basic computer and software applications.
  • Excellent time management skill and meeting deadlines.

Language: fluent in English and Amharic
