WASH Specialist – Environmentalists Development Association – Ethiopia (EDAE)

Job Description

Environmentalists Development Association – Ethiopia (EDAE) is a local NGO that aspires to harmonize human development with environmental protection. Currently it is dedicated to implement a project called “Good Hygiene, Better Health” in Bilaa Town its environs of East Wollega Zone, Oromia National Regional State.

Awareness creation and trainings on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) is a component of this project that needs to assign a female WASH specialist for the period of the project implementation.

We are intending to hire an experienced WASH specialist who is familiar with NGOs code of conduct, approaches and standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

The candidate will :

  • Prepare/adapt WASH specific training materials, manuals and guidelines appropriate for project activities and audience.
  • Organize, train and support WASH clubs in the schools.
  • Assist in organizing and training of community sanitation committees.
  • Organize and conduct awareness creation on WASH issues among students, teachers and the public in the project area.
  • Conduct workshops on menstrual hygiene.
  • Coordinate and oversee trainings by experienced external trainers on reusable menstrual pads and soap making.
  • Monitor the sanitation and hygiene practices in the schools and the community.
  • Submit weekly, monthly and quarterly reports on WASH activities to the project manager.
  • Undertake any other WASH relevant activities in support of the project, as designated by the Project Manager.

Duration : The specialist will be hired for 12 months

Duty Station : The Inspector will be stationed in Bilaa Town permanently.

Salary: Is subject to negotiation.

Job Requirements

Requirements and Qualification

  • University degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Sanitation Engineering or related fields. A training of not less than three months with health or water related academic background will be considered as a valid qualification.
  • At least three years experience in the related field.
  • Experience on providing training and workshops on WASH issues.
  • Proficiency in English language.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Available to work over weekends.
  • Familiar with NGOs code of conduct and approaches.
  • Ability to work and live in area of limited amenities.
  • Good command of Afan Oromo is advantageous.
