The Organization

Addis Jemari (AJ) is NGO working in Addis Ababa. We are a child-centered and family-focused organization. We fight to end the orphan crisis in Ethiopia by empowering orphans, vulnerable children, and their families to end generational poverty. We strive to create sustainable solutions to families and children in need of support.

AJ has two programs in place to address the needs of orphan, vulnerable children and families in Addis Ababa. Our AJ home and reintegration program is a safe and loving home for orphaned and vulnerable teenage girls who no longer have parental care or have aged out of the orphanage system. Our model is evident in all aspects of life as the team in Ethiopia meets their physical needs and invests in their spiritual and emotional well-being. In our second program of Family Empowerment, we work directly with economically disadvantaged mothers and fathers who are struggling to meet their family’s basic needs. We take a holistic approach by investing in each family economically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. The program offers educational support, economic empowerment, and social support to beneficiaries.

Job Summary 

The M&E officer is fully responsible to the overall planning, monitoring, evaluation, learning and reporting of Addis Jemari’s two program activities. The officer will develop and utilize monitoring and evaluation tools for our two programs, prepare monitoring checklists, lead house field monitoring visits, collect periodic quantitative and qualitative data useful for informed decision making, organize review meetings, and generate report. The officer compiles and analyses data gathered and provided by program staff. The M&E Officer reports to Addis Jemari director.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assure the contribution of the two programs towards achieving program goals and objectives.
  • Ensure that the standard target set for each program implementation activities are met on the specified time.
  • Develop data collection methods and tools to support programs in baseline assessment, output and outcome monitoring and evaluation of the on-going programs.
  • Prepare M&E action plan and produce consolidated and well organized monthly, quarterly, and annual reports of programs and submits them timely to the director.
  • Based on the M&E findings provide monitoring, evaluation and learning feedbacks and technical support to program staff to upgrade their work and program implementation capacity.
  • Lead the collection of baseline data for the identification and inclusion of program beneficiaries into our program and ensure they are properly identified, screened, enrolled and appropriately served in the program.
  • Conduct planned house visit or field level monitoring and supervision together with program staff and communicate findings to the director.
  • Facilitate and participate in staff meetings and in quarterly stakeholders review meetings, management meetings, different trainings as required.
  • Collect qualitative and quantitative data, analyze and interpret with the support of statistical computer software to generate sound M&E findings during the report writing.
  • Write lessons, success stories and best practices and attach copies with quarter and annual reports.
  • Strengthen smooth communication and partnership by working together with the program staff and Addis Jemari’s key stakeholders.
  • Perform other appropriate activities assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Employment Type:   Contract, Part time (works every quarter to monitor and evaluate programs)

Job Requirements

Qualifications & Experience:

Required:

  • A minimum of Bachelor or Master Degree in Statistics or Information Systems Management is required with at least 5 years’ experience developing M&E systems in an international NGO.
  •  It is a must to have an Understanding of data and information needs for program management and decision making with thorough experience and knowledge of principles and current approaches to monitoring and evaluation in development programs.

Desired:

  • A master’s degree in in Statistics or Information Systems Management
