Job Purpose:
IYCF Officers support the care takers and PHCUs in counselling and home to home visit for TFP and SFP beneficiaries for successful outcome. He/she will support heath facilities (Primary Hospitals, Health Centers and Health Posts) in the treatment of acute malnutrition among nutrition priority groups, mainly Children U5 and referral linkage services in accordance with the national protocol and SPHERE standard. He/she will support and assist the care takers to adhere to instructions, hygiene sanitation and infant and young children feeding at facilities and door to door for SAM and MAM caretakers.
The position is expected to support health facilities and support for mothers at the Therapeutic Feeding Programs in OTP and SC sites (TFP units) and Responsible for identifying the barriers and cultural taboos that hiders child feeding, identify minimum resources for IYCF implementation with other routine reports and share to the immediate supervisor.
Key Responsibilities
Project/Program Implementation:
- Supporting the planning and execution of project activities, ensuring they align with organizational goals and donor requirements.
- Ensuring project activities are implemented effectively and efficiently, meeting deadlines and achieving desired results.
Compliance and Administration:
- Ensuring compliance with organizational policies and procedures, as well as donor requirements.
- Maintaining accurate records and documentation related to project activities.
- Contributing to the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the organization.
- Strengthening IYCF-E services at health facilities and community levels by working closely with SC and OTP teams to promote optimal feeding practices for infants and young children (0–23 months), including breastfeeding and appropriate complementary feeding. As well, ensuring adherence to national and international guidelines, such as the IYCF-E Operational Guidance, Sphere Standards, and CMAM protocols, to uphold the quality, safety, and dignity of care.
- Providing technical assistance and on-the-job coaching to health workers, and health extension workers, HAD/VHL on IYCF-E counselling, breastfeeding support, and maternal nutrition, and OTP and SC services. Moreover, integrate the TFP activities with IYCF Activities, including health facilities with due emphasis on enhancing the availability and integration of IYCF counselling services.
- Facilitating community engagement and awareness, working with community volunteers, health extension workers, and mother support groups to encourage uptake of IYCF-E and CMAM services, counter misinformation, and build trust with caregivers.
- Conduct regular supportive supervision and provide technical support on stabilization Centre and Outpatient Therapeutic Program sites.
- Identifying and addressing programmatic gaps, including challenges related to supplies (therapeutic milk and plump nut), breastfeeding corners, IEC materials, job aids (quick reference, look up table, report format, registration, follow up card), community engagement, or referral systems between IYCF-E and CMAM services.
Required Education, training, license, registration, and/or Certification
- BSc degree in Public Health/ Clinical Nursing/Nutrition and related health field of study preferred from accredited universities or health colleges
Certificates on:
  1. Acute malnutrition 2019 revised guideline training
2. IYCF–E training
3. Integrated Pharmaceuticals Logistics System (IPLS)
4.Trained on Family MUAC approach and TSFP/MAM
