Job Description

BACKGROUND

Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) was launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. GAIN is a global, Swiss-based foundation that mobilizes public-private partnerships and provides financial and technical support to deliver nutritious foods to those people most at risk of malnutrition.

GAIN contributes to fighting malnutrition in Ethiopia through innovative and sustainable models that increase access to affordable nutritious foods among communities vulnerable to malnutrition in collaboration with mainly the government and private sectors. GAIN is currently looking for a trainer/s to provide training to the GAIN team (may include participants from partner organizations) on the topic of Public Speaking.

OBJECTIVES AND SCOPE OF WORK

The objective of this assignment is to develop the knowledge and skill of GAIN Ethiopia staff in Public Speaking through a high-level professional approach with an acceptable confidence level.

The specific scope of the trainer/s are:

·       Conduct a pre-assessment of the GAIN Ethiopia team in terms of public speaking experience and skills

·       Develop appropriate public speaking training materials and approaches

·       Conduct the actual training mostly in a participatory way and involving a practical session that is similar with real-life experience and aligning with GAIN’s purpose and objectives

KEY ACTIVITIES

Accordingly, the key activities of the trainer/s to be addressed in this TOR are:

1.     Conduct a systematic assessment to understand the background of the staff (both middle-level managers and technical team) in terms of Public Speaking

2.     Suggest training topics for a maximum of 2-3 days and develop detailed training materials and submit them to GAIN for review and input ahead.

3.     Develop innovative training methodology which is participatory and convenient to be inclusive to all levels of participants.

4.     Provide actual training in a participatory way and encourage each participant to get a chance of demonstrating the learning by linking the topic with their assignment in GAIN.

5.     Provide practical examples that the participants can easily envision during the training

6.     Provide other supportive references both written and audio-visuals to the participants

7.     Develop a detailed training report with the next steps and recommendations

8.     Facilitate virtual checking or refresher to the participants after six months of the training and provide feedback to GAIN

 

DELIVERABLES

Considering the above scope of work and detailed activities, below are the specific deliverables with key indicators the trainer/s is expected to deliver.

N.B GAIN will facilitate the training venue and refreshments, if there is a need to travel outside of Addis Ababa, GAIN will facilitate the travel, accommodation, and per diem of the trainer/s and participants.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS 

 ·       Proven record with full training facilitation capabilities in similar topic

·       Practical experience in the topic of public speaking in addition to expertise in conducting training.

·       Understanding of the NGO environment

·       Being flexible to the identified learning situations

·       Excellent interpersonal communication skills

·       Ability to deliver the training in a timely manner and within acceptable quality and outcome

·       Being result oriented

 ASSESSMENT AND SELECTION CRITERIA

Both individual consultants and firms are allowed to apply. Both technical and financial proposals must be presented in English. The proposals, technical and financial, will be evaluated with the following criteria:

Independent consultants/ Firm’s technical proposal will be evaluated out of 70% which will be mainly evaluated on the understanding of the task, methodology, qualification, and previous experiences related to this specific scope of work. Those shortlisted will pass on to financial evaluation accordingly.

The financial proposal will be opened only for those individuals/firms scoring 50% and above for the technical proposal. Total scores for the financial proposal are 30% which will be evaluated on the lowest cost basis separately. Finally, the consultant with the highest score out of 100% will be selected for the assignment.

How to Apply

INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLICATION

·       Submit a maximum of a 7-page technical proposal which includes the methodology and work plan of the assignment

·       Annex CV/s of the trainer/s and other supportive documents that are directly related to the assignment. This includes renewed licenses and VAT/TOT registration certificates in the case of firms.

·       Provide a detailed financial proposal for each deliverable and related costs within the scope.

·       Any document that can provide supporting experience can be annexed along with the proposal.

·       Each page of submitted documents should be stamped or signed by the applicant.

·       The technical and financial proposals must be sealed separately for submission.

·       All documents should be delivered to GAIN Ethiopia office in hard copy until January 20, 2023 – to the following address:
