About the Role

Are you looking to kickstart your career in supply chain management and humanitarian operations? The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, is seeking a motivated Procurement Intern to join the Supply Chain & Procurement team for an 8-month opportunity.
This role provides practical exposure to international procurement operations, supplier relationship management (SRM), digital workflows, data analytics, and reporting within the world’s largest humanitarian organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Vendor Onboarding & Supplier Data Management: Assist internal stakeholders and suppliers through onboarding workflows, verify submissions for completeness, maintain onboarding tracking logs, and ensure confidential records are organized and audit-ready.
  • Procurement Operational Support: Gather market intelligence, draft standard procurement documents under supervision, monitor procurement actions, and update status trackers.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Extract and clean vendor data, build Excel or SharePoint trackers, analyze procurement pipelines, and support monthly/quarterly SRM reporting.
  • Digital Workflows & Process Improvement: Support internal and external users on digital procurement platforms, document user feedback, map workflow stages, and assist in creating standard templates.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Coordinate orientation sessions, maintain communication with cross-functional teams (Logistics, Finance, Legal, IT), and draft meeting notes and action trackers.

Eligibility & Qualifications

To qualify for the WFP Internship Programme, candidates must meet one of the following academic criteria:
  • Undergraduate Students: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program (in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Information Systems, Computer Science, or Data Analytics) having completed at least two years of study.
  • Graduate Students: Currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program related to Supply Chain, Logistics, or Business Management.
  • Recent Graduates: Graduated within the last 6 months from a recognized university program.
Additional Requirements:
  • Language Skills: Fluency in both written and spoken English and Amharic.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); familiarity with SharePoint or data visualization dashboards is a plus.
  • Compliance: Must be fit to work at the duty station in Addis Ababa and not be a direct family member (son, daughter, brother, or sister) of a WFP employee.
