Brief Description of the project/ unit

Our approach: The Lowland Soil Rehabilitation Project (LSRP) is part of the Global Programme Soil Protection and Rehabilitation for Food Security under the Special initiative “Transformation of Agricultural and Food Systems” and the priority topic “A life free of hunger” of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) strategy 2030.

The LSRP operates in eight districts in the Afar region, one district in Oromia and provides training and backstopping for all districts in Somali region.

Jointly with its regional and local government partners, the project has developed the Dry Valley Rehabilitation and Productive Use (DVRPU) approach which is a holistic approach integrating social, technical, biological, economic, institutional and managerial measures to rehabilitate entire dry valleys for the benefit of the inhabitants and their livestock. The DVRPU approach is defined in seven crucial steps for a sustainable rehabilitation of dry valleys:

  1. Satellite Identification and Dry Valley Delineation
  2. Suitability Assessment
  3. Community Participatory Planning
  4. Dry Valley User Cooperative Societies (DVUCS):
  5. Technical and Budgetary Planning
  6. Land rehabilitation measures
  7. Productive Use

 

Job Description:

The Lowland Soil Rehabilitation Project (LSRP) is currently seeking a motivated and talented intern to join the team as a Data Collection Intern in Jijiga, Somali region. This unique internship position offers an opportunity to actively contribute to ongoing research efforts and collaborate closely with national and international researchers. As a Data Collection Intern, your role will be instrumental in supporting the LSRP’s monitoring and evaluation activities through effective data collection. The primary focus as an intern will be to assist in the collection and management of crucial data for the LSRP. This will involve conducting comprehensive field surveys, carrying out interviews, and gathering data from diverse sources.

The intern will gain valuable experience in Monitoring and Evaluation with a special focus on data collection in the context of an environmental and agricultural development project.
