Organizational Background

The Network of Ethiopian Women’s Associations (NEWA) is a non-partisan, non-governmental network organization established in 2003, and currently NEWA has 50-member local organizations and associations seeking to create a stronger advocacy voice for women’s advancement. NEWA has a twofold goal: synchronizing the individual activities of women’s associations into an integrated collective effort and synergy to realize their common aspirations for gender equality; and launching a vigorous public campaign of promotion, advocacy, and lobbying for women’s rights.

Position Overview

The Network of Ethiopian Women’s Associations (NEWA) is seeking a passionate, experienced, and committed Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Program Coordinator to lead the design, coordination, and implementation of GBV prevention and response programs in humanitarian and development settings. Provide technical leadership, capacity-building, stakeholder coordination, and ensure safe, survivor-centered service delivery. The GBV Coordinator will work closely with sub grantees, community partners, stakeholders, and internal teams to develop, implement, and monitor effective interventions that support survivors and prevent GBV in target communities.

This is a key position that plays a vital role in advancing NEWA’s mission to promote women’s rights, gender equality, and eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls.

Key Responsibilities

Program Planning and Coordination

• Lead the design and implementation of GBV programs and projects in alignment with NEWA’s strategic priorities.
• Coordinate GBV project activities across implementing sites and partners.
• Prepare work plans, manage budgets, coordinate procurement, and monitor expenses according to donor guidelines
• Lead GBV-focused assessments and support integration across sectors
• Develop detailed implementation plans, budgets, and reporting schedules.
• Ensure activities are delivered on time, within scope, and budget.

2. Capacity Building and Technical Support

• Provide training and ongoing support to staff, partners, and community groups on GBV prevention, survivor-centered response, and protection.
• Develop or adapt training tools and IEC ((Information, Education, Communication) materials tailored to program needs.

3. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting

• Develop and apply tools to monitor progress, evaluate outcomes, and document best practices.
• Compile regular narrative and financial reports for donors and stakeholders.
• Lead internal learning and program adaptation based on M&E results.

4. Advocacy and Partnership

• Represent NEWA in GBV-related forums, working groups, and networks.
• Contribute to advocacy campaigns and policy initiatives on GBV prevention and women’s rights.
• Build and maintain partnerships with government offices, donors, and civil society organizations.

6. Resource Mobilization and Proposal Development

• Contribute to the development of funding proposals related to GBV and women’s protection.
• Identify strategic opportunities for program expansion.

Required Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Social Work, Public Health, Law, Psychology, or related field (Master’s degree is a strong advantage).

Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree:8 years of relevant experience.
• Master’s degree: 4 years of relevant experience.
• Experience coordinating and managing GBV projects, at least 2 years in supervisory roles
• Has hands on experience on GBV/ VAWG on development and Humanitarian sectors
• Strong knowledge of GBV standards, survivor-centered approaches, and national protection frameworks.
• Experience in case management, community engagement, and partner coordination.
• Excellent project management, organizational, and communication skills.
• Fluency in English and Amharic required; additional local languages are a plus.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and report writing.

Skills and Competencies

Required Training and Knowledge

• Extensive training in Child Protection (CP), Gender-Based Violence (GBV), PSEA, psychosocial support, case management, and the application of international standards and technical guidelines in CP and GBV programming.
• In-depth knowledge of survivor-centered approaches, protection principles, and referral pathways.
• Strong understanding of GBV-related legal and policy frameworks in Ethiopia.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

• Proven ability to design and implement high-quality GBV and CP programs under tight deadlines and in high-pressure environments.
• Strong team player with the ability to also work independently with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrated capacity to coordinate across multiple stakeholders and sectors.

Technical and Communication Skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Amharic.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and internet applications.
• Strong report writing, presentation, and documentation skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, empathy, and ethical conduct when working with survivors.
