Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (Primarily based at the N4ED Head Office in Sarbet, with occasional travel to project sites in Kotebe and Weyra Sefer.)

Duration: One year with a possibility of extension

Background

Nexus 4 Empowerment & Development (N4ED) is a grassroots Ethiopian Civil Society Organization dedicated to fostering a productive generation through investments in children’s nutrition, early childhood development, and women’s empowerment.

As part of its economic empowerment programs, N4ED supports vulnerable individuals and communities through entrepreneurship, vocational skills development, and income-generating initiatives. To strengthen these efforts, N4ED is seeking a motivated and proactive Income Generation Activities (IGA) Officer to support livelihood activities, assist beneficiaries in developing sustainable businesses, and facilitate partnerships, market linkages, and business development services.

Purpose of the Position

The Income Generation Activities (IGA) Officer will support the planning, coordination, and implementation of livelihood and entrepreneurship activities across N4ED projects. The position will assist beneficiaries in developing quality business plans, identifying business and employment opportunities, establishing partnerships, coordinating vocational attachments, and facilitating market linkages with private sector actors.

The position will also contribute to identifying innovative income-generating opportunities that improve beneficiary livelihoods while supporting the long-term sustainability of N4ED’s economic empowerment initiatives.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Business Development Assistance

  • Support beneficiaries in identifying appropriate and sustainable business ideas based on their skills, interests, available resources, and market opportunities.
    • Assist beneficiaries in developing, reviewing, and improving business plans and required documentation.
    • Support beneficiaries in preparing applications for seed grants, seed capital, or other livelihood support opportunities.
    • Coordinate business plan review sessions with relevant professionals and incorporate feedback.
    • Conduct follow-up with supported beneficiaries and provide basic guidance on business development activities.
    • Assist in monitoring the progress and sustainability of supported businesses.

Income Generation Activities Coordination

  • Support the implementation of N4ED’s livelihood and income generation activities.
    • Identify potential income-generating opportunities suitable for beneficiaries and N4ED initiatives.
    • Assist in organizing entrepreneurship trainings, business competitions, exhibitions, and networking events.
    • Support the development and coordination of N4ED’s future income-generating initiatives.
    • Maintain updated records of IGA activities, beneficiary progress, and related documentation.

Partnership and Business Networking

  • Identify potential businesses, organizations, cooperatives, and other stakeholders for collaboration.
    • Support establishing and maintaining relationships with partners that create opportunities for beneficiaries.
    • Assist in facilitating market linkages, business connections, and networking opportunities.
    • Coordinate meetings and communication with potential partners and stakeholders.

Vocational and Employment Linkage Support

  • Identify businesses and organizations that can provide vocational attachments, internships, apprenticeships, or employment opportunities.
    • Assist in coordinating beneficiary placements with partner organizations.
    • Follow up on vocational attachment arrangements and document progress and outcomes.

Reporting and Documentation Support

  • Prepare activity reports and provide updates on IGA implementation.
    • Maintain organized beneficiary files, databases, and supporting documents.
    • Document success stories, lessons learned, and good practices from IGA activities
  • Support monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities related to livelihood and income generation programs.

General Support

  • Support the IGA team with other related tasks as required.
    • Participate in field visits, meetings, and organizational activities related to income generation initiatives.
    • Work closely with SHG facilitators to strengthen SHG management, leadership, record keeping, savings practices, business support, and overall group sustainability through regular guidance, mentoring, and follow-up

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Business Administration and Development Studies, Marketing Management, Entrepreneurship, Economics, Management, Development Studies, or another relevant field.
  • Experience: Candidates with up to 3 – 5 years of relevant experience in entrepreneurship development, livelihood programming, business development, marketing, community development, or related fields will have an advantage.
  • Volunteering experience: Volunteering experience is an asset.
  • Computer skills: Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, email, and general computer use is required. Familiarity with printers and scanners is also expected.
  • Language skills: Fluency in both Amharic and English, written and spoken, is required. Personal competencies: The ideal candidate should have an interest in entrepreneurship and income-generating activities, basic understanding of business planning and marketing principles, good communication and relationship-building skills, willingness to learn and take initiative, strong organizational and time management abilities, and the ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team.
