Inclusive Education Project Officer for Ensuring Quality and Inclusive Education for Children with Disabilities Program- II (EQIEP-II) Project

Location:  Amhara Region (Enjibara)

Background:

The Ethiopian Center for Disability and Development (ECDD) is an Ethiopian development NGO established in 2005 and re-registered on 17 May 2019, Registration No. 0321, as a local organization in accordance with the Civil Society Organizations Proclamation No. 1113/2019. ECDD works collaboratively with other organizations to promote, facilitate, and build organizational capacity for “disability-inclusive development” in Ethiopia – the inclusion of disability issues and persons with disabilities in mainstream government service delivery and non-governmental development programs.

ECDD is partnering with CBM Italy to implement the “Ensuring Quality and Inclusive Education for Children with Disabilities Program- II (EQIEP-II) Project” with an overall objective to promote inclusive and quality education for Children with Disabilities in Amhara and SNNP Regions.  The project in general targets and benefits girls and boys with disabilities, in four schools in Amhara region and three schools in the SNNP Regional States. Parents Teachers Association (PTA), school management committees, School Improvement Program (SIP) team at school, Teachers Training Colleges (TTCs) from each region, various education like education sector officials, teachers, principals, CBID workers, OPDs, and CBOs are also targets of the project and families of children with disabilities.

Job summary:

The Inclusive Education Project Officer will report to the ECDD EQIEP Project Coordinator and is responsible to promote, implement and monitor inclusive education activities of the EQIEP in the project intervention areas in Amhara regional states. The Inclusive Education Project Officer will be based at Awi zone, Injibara, as assigned, in order to provide support for the goals of the project, with a particular focus on ensuring quality inclusive education program in the target schools and College of Teacher Education.

Key responsibilities:

  • Initiate the planning, implementation and reporting of project activities with Project Coordinator
  • Organize workshops, trainings and events together with supervision of Project Coordinator
  • Facilitate accessibility audit and modification at the target schools and College of Teacher Education.
  • Facilitate the distribution of the resources, equipment and other assistive devises purchased for the target schools
  • Monitor and evaluate progress on achievement of project results, and provide data and information to the ECDD M&E Coordinator
  • Collaborate with Project coordinator to prepare quarterly reports of activities accomplishes
  • Prepare regular and timely updates and reports, including collection, documentation and dissemination of lessons learned, case stories and good practices of the project and its partners
  • Undertake such other tasks as may be assigned by the ECDD Project Coordinator &   Inclusive Education Program Team Lead or Program Director

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in inclusive/special needs education, or education;
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience working in the field of education, preferably on inclusive education;
  • Experience working with local and/or international NGOs in implementing education projects;
  • Previous experience working as an educator in the field of inclusive education desirable;
  • Competence in the use of computer applications;
  • Fluency in English and Amharic or Ethiopian Sign Language, knowledge of other Ethiopian languages desirable.
