Job Description

Organizational Background

The Ethiopia Somali Development Association (ESDA) was established in April 2012 by the Somali communities in the region as non-governmental, no-profit making association registered under the Ethiopian civil society charity organization number 3122 with a view to mitigating the humanitarian and development problems of the region by mobilizing local and external resources. SDA support the development endeavours of the people of Somali region in the areas of Health, Basic education, food security and livelihood, protection, Water, hygiene and sanitation, livestock health, peace building, income generating activities for women and youth, and other related development activities through mobilizing resources from volunteer members, Diaspora communities and institutional donors.

Purpose of the role: – Ensure the provision of an effective and appropriate ICT service designed to meet the needs of the ESDA. Maintain and develop the ICT infrastructure to ensure best value and to support fit for purpose systems and solutions. Maintain local and wide area networks and support remote working. Implement and develop policies relating to ICT, Information and Security. Provide advanced technical support to ESDA staff

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Manage the configuration, installation and deployment of ESDA covering mobile devices, computers, printers and photocopies
  • Installing and configuring computer hardware, software, systems, networks, printers, and scanners
  • Ensure that the equipment under his/her responsibility is in good working condition, by inspecting regularly the hardware and installations. If required, arrange promptly repairs or replacement as necessary according to established procedures
  • Monitoring and maintaining computer systems and networks
  • Responding in a timely manner to service issues and requests
  • Providing technical support across the organization (this may be in person or over the phone)
  • Setting up accounts for new employees Repairing and replacing equipment as necessary
  • troubleshoot system and network problems, diagnosing and solving hardware or software faults replace parts as required
  •  set up new users’ accounts and profiles and deal with password issues
  •  rapidly establish a good working relationship with employees of the organization
  • Monitor the operation and security of all computer hardware and ensure that it is operating properly
  •  Serve as a primary contact for all servicing of computers, printers, etc.
  •  Maintain a sufficient inventory of all office and computer supplies
  •  Maintain all hardware and software logs updated as per ESDA ICT procedures
  • Maintain the documentation of all hardware configuration and inventory
  • Ensure that all communications and marketing material aligns with brand standards
  • Maintain digital media archives including photos and videos
  • Respond to media inquiries and perform media outreach to achieve brand placement in publications
  • Write, edit, and distribute content, including publications, press releases, website content, annual reports, speeches, and other marketing material that communicates the organization’s activities, products and/or services.
  • Respond to media enquiries, arrange interviews, and act as a spokesperson for the organization.
  • Maintaining physical security and good order in Data Centre and ICT working environments, ensuring all cabling is tidy and appropriately labelled and any equipment alerts or faults identified in the environment are evaluated and dealt with appropriately.
  • Maintain information security through equipment data wiping, ensuring disposals are dealt with in an appropriate manner to protect against data loss including configuration wipes of any infrastructure equipment.
  •  Maintain the password, user access and change control procedures ensuring appropriate documentation has been completed and sign off attained.
  • Manage administrative privileges in line with ICT policies

Essential qualifications

  • MSc or Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a technical IT role, preferably in an international organizations or UN agencies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to convey information clearly to users and grasp perceived difficulties.
  • Excellent diagnostic skills and ability to exercise good judgment in the resolution of problems.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to learn on the fly and stay up to date with the latest technology.
  • Reliability, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Fluency in both Somali and English, for oral and written communication.
  • Ability to present complex information in a succinct and compelling manner, and to use innovative forms of communication.
  • Proven capacity to supervise, train and coach staff.
  • Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy; capacity and Commitment to and understanding of ESDA’s aims, values and principles.
