Job Summary

Responsible for planning, implementing, monitoring and reporting the FH/E MWA-SWP Hygiene and Sanitation component. He/she will be responsible for the effective implementation of the overall Essential Hygiene Action (EHA) with special emphasis on Community Led Total sanitation (CLTS) and School WASH(SWASH) activities.

Key Result #1 – Plan & implement

1.     Plan, implement and monitor SWASH activities and work with the MWA-SWP Project team

2.     Promote sanitation and hygiene related behavioral changes, including handwashing, safe drinking water storage, personal hygiene and water quality protection.

3.     Develops appropriate IEC materials related to Hygiene and Sanitation in close consultation with the project team

4.     Gather hygiene and sanitation related information from Governmental, Non-Governmental and other appropriate sources at the district level and share it among project staff and FH/E.

5.     Mobilize community, establish CLTSH committee and aggressively work toward establishing open defecation free (ODF) villages and kebele’s

6.     Facilitate for Sanitation marketing enterprise to preparing the Sanitation business activities

7.     Facilitate procurements of WASH supplies including, detergents and kits;

Key Result #2 – Capacity building

8.     Train community health animators using structured module

9.     Plan, organize and facilitate various training and educational sessions on EHA for health extension workers and project staffs in the district.

10.   In collaboration with district Hygiene and sanitation focal person train community CLTSH committee and provide technical support in to enable declare ODF

Key Result #3 – Monitoring, evaluation and reporting

11.   Conducts regular monitoring of activities to ensure the effective implementation of the hygiene and sanitation program; and communicates timely with a possible recommendation in case of any deviation.

Key Result #4 – Partnership and networking

12.   Establish and maintain smooth-working relationships with appropriate governmental (mainly Hygiene and sanitation focal person at the health and education office), non-Governmental, faith based and community-based organizations working in related fields at the district level.

13.   Actively collaborate and work closely with CLTS committee to maintain ODF environment

14.   Carry out any other relevant duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

⮚        Refrain from any comments or gestures that indicate prejudicial views of female staff, especially female supervisors.

⮚        In each Project and Head Office, ask women staff what changes would make it more “gender-friendly”, organization and implement the recommendations

Safety & Security Responsibility

⮚        Each FHE staff member should adhere to all pertinent policies concerning safety and security policy of FH. Lapses in safe conduct can jeopardize the health and welfare of all staff.

⮚        Every FHE staff member has an obligation to learn and understand the security situation where they are located.

⮚        Each FHE staff member should adhere to all pertinent policies concerning safety and security.  This includes, but not limited to, personal safety, road safety, etc.

⮚        Has a responsibility to become familiar to social, cultural and other associated features of their duty stations;

⮚        Abstains from inappropriate or offensive behavior that can put FHE in a difficult position, impair operations, and jeopardize the health and welfare of all staff of FHE.

⮚        All FHE staff should promotes safe conducts and exercises caution in all work activities; staff should accountable for own personal and professional actions and conduct;

Experience

⮚        At least 2 Years’ experience in a similar position preferably in an International NGO settings.

 

Education/Certifications

⮚        B.Sc in Environmental Health , Public Health, Water and Sanitation, Environmental Science, or Environmental Engineering or relevant field of study

⮚       Experience in sanitation facilities construction progress supervision has added value

Distinguishing Competencies

⮚        Training on Hygiene and Sanitation such as PHAST and CLTSH

⮚        Proactive personality & and self-initiative.

Language

⮚        Proficiency in spoken and written Amharic and /or local language of the operational area and, basic understanding of English required;

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibility.
