Position: Humanitarian Officer

Reports to: Humanitarian Manager

Type of Contract: Contract

Required Number: One

Duty Base: Borena Zone, Oromia Region

The position holder, under the supervision of the Humanitarian Manager, will be responsible for assisting our local partners’ in the implementation of the project activities under SPAII DANIDA ToP and other Humanitarian response Projects in Borena and other regional responses. She/He will be working with the community and local service providers to increase capacity of services related to protection, provide basic psychosocial support, conduct assessments and provide monitoring information. The position holder will also manage the human, material, and financial resources of the project, in accordance with organizational policies and procedures, and facilitates project interventions ensuring the application of humanitarian principles, standards, and values. She/He will also ensure timely, efficient, effective and accountable humanitarian response, with local partners, to survivors of natural and/or man-made disasters.

  •  Provide support to other agencies and local authorities in order to map services, collect data and provide monitoring reports.
  • Support safe programing and adherence to safeguarding of the project and implementing partners
  • Monitor, assess, observe and report on key protection concerns and rights violations in the field
  • Support the delivery of awareness raising and training for associations and community groups, service providers, DRM offices, teachers and other key influencers to increase awareness, capacity and support.
  • Provide support to other sectors (for instance Livelihood, WASH, Education & Health) as needed to deliver the program and mainstreaming activities.
  • Ensure that activities are recorded, and activity reports are provided to the line manager by the agreed timeline and are of high quality.
  • Facilitating women and young peoples’ leadership in the humanitarian actions & ensure the implementation of AAE’s humanitarian signatures and program approaches
  • Compile regular updates/ reports of the ongoing humanitarian response in the area where she/he is assigned and submit to relevant departments within AAE and relevant actors in the zone or cluster.
  • Participate in meetings organized by the local government or any other humanitarian actor on the humanitarian activities and advocate our humanitarian signatures,
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local authorities (State and Community leaders) and CBOs, Local |CSOs, UN agencies, and other humanitarian actors working in the designation area.
  • Serves as focal person of AAE for emergency preparedness and response planning (EPRP) at the Woreda/ Zonal level and provides support to local partners including the community.
  • Ensure participation and reporting in relevant humanitarian cluster platforms

Job Requirements

Job Requirements

  • BA Degree or MA in Disaster Risk Register/Disaster Risk Science and Sustainable Development, Agriculture, Rural development, Sociology, Social work, or related field of study
  • Relevant work-related field experience in humanitarian context and harsh working environments
  • Minimum 3 years for BA holders and 1 years for MA holders & the experiences related with Humanitarian response (Food distribution, Cash Distribution, Targeting etc) and Protection support
  • Excellent understanding of Core Humanitarian Standards on Quality, and Accountability, Sphere standard, Core Humanitarian principles protection principles, and human rights.t
  • Excellent communication skills including ability to gain trust and build relationships with new communities and local partners
  • Experience in Project cycle management including excellent concept note/proposal writing and report writing skills
  • Good understanding of the context of women, girls and youth issues under Ethiopia social, political, economic and cultural context
