ROLE PURPOSE:

Health & Nutrition Coordinator will represent Save the children values and principles in interactions with staff and external audiences. These values and principles include a commitment to the mission of Save the Children International, team orientation, quality management and leadership development, and introducing systems and procedures to strengthen staff motivation and productivity.  The selected employee will be responsible for providing technical and managerial support to the staff for the implementation of integrated health, nutrition and WASH. Ensure program implementation is in line with the planned budget, conduct training and monitor the effective implementation of the program and ensure program performance is in line with international and national standards.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

In line with SCI’s dual mandate, these key areas of accountability apply to SCI Ethiopia’s work in emergencies (acute and chronic) and in development settings.

Program Management

  • Oversees the implementation of integrated health and nutrition project in four Woredas and ensuring that the quality standards and state of the art are met.
  • Ensures effective start up, management, implementation, monitoring, reporting and evaluation of integrated health and nutrition projects in four woredas.
  • Provide support and guidance to the project team and implementing partners; assess training needs, plan & provides training/guidance for staff in setting up new OTP and SC sites and ICCM services and EPI activities.
  • Facilitate trainings for health professionals in different areas like training on inventory management, HMIS, IMNCI and cold chain management etc as it is planned in the project document.
  • Participating in and/or leading health, nutrition, and/or multi-sectoral assessments as required.
  • Manages all Save the Children resources (equipment, supplies, HR) committed to emergency and other nutrition activities in collaboration with the project manager.
  • Conducts regular field visits to provide supportive supervision to the projects.
  • Closely work with the finance and program team to ensure that program budgets are realistic, that they are efficiently used complying with donor requirements, and that reports are submitted in a timely manner.
  • Conducts regular field visits and review meetings with government officials to monitor the implementation of integrated health and nutrition activities.
  • In collaboration with the Project  Manager, ensure timely preparation and implementation of the phase-out strategy

Representation and communication

  • Represents Save the Children in Zonal level nutrition and health coordination and other fora.
  • Documents findings and recommendations of field visits for follow-up actions; shares as appropriate.
  • Oversees and leads the development and submission of program reports, ensuring completeness, accuracy and timeliness for three woredas.
  • Documents lessons learned in specific technical areas for three woreads.

Staff and Budget Management

  • In collaboration with the project manager conduct regular performance management. This includes work plans and performance reviews.
  • In collaboration with the project manager Engages in the recruitment process of staff for the project as necessary.

Other

  • Performs other related tasks as required.

In order to be successful you will bring/have:

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor or Postgraduate degree in public health.
  • Minimum 4 years field experience in humanitarian work, including significant experience in managing integrated projects.
  • Excellent leadership, coordination and management experience.
  • Knowledge of latest health related technical guidelines and standards in emergency nutrition and health.
  • Experience in CMAM and ICCM.
  • Experience in budget management.
  • Experience in quality assurance in a clinical setting desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability for leadership and independent decision making
  • Strong interpersonal skills & excellent team player.
  • Willingness and ability to work in hardship environment.
  • Cultural and gender sensitivity
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
