Founded in 1950, Doctors with Africa CUAMM was the first NGO focused on healthcare to be recognized by the Italian government. It is now one of the leading organization working to protect and improve the well-being and health of vulnerable communities in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The NGO promotes long-term health cooperation projects, intervening also in emergencies to ensure that services are available to all.
Doctors with Africa CUAMM is currently active in 9 Sub-Saharan countries: Angola, Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda.
The NGO supports public and non-profit hospitals, local districts, schools of nursing and midwifery, university faculties of medicine.
CUAMM’s action focuses on health system strengthening and targets the weakest population groups, particularly women and children. Interventions include prevention, screening and treatment programmes; development or strengthening of referral systems at community level; training of health staff; management support and technical assistance to local health institutions; field research.
CUAMM’s international and national staff work together on the front line to strengthen local health systems, in resource-limited contexts where the commitment and contribution of the individual can make a real difference.

Job position: Health Coordinator
Duration: 12 months
Purpose of the role
Working under the guidance of the Country Manager (CM), the Health Coordinator ensures the overall supervision, monitoring, and quality evaluation of NGO projects in Ethiopia.
The role is also pivotal in supporting the CM in managing strategic relations with stakeholders, the government, and international donors to enhance the organization’s reputation and in driving the development of new project proposals.
Key duties:
- Collaborating in the participation in meetings, workshops or conferences with donors, agencies or government authorities.
- Liaising with local authorities to keep them updated about the works of the NGO and gather information on the recent policies, guidelines and directives, to be shared within the organization.
- Collaborating with the CM and HQs team to design the Annual Country Programme and formulate new project proposals aligned with the organization’s mission and strategy.
- Identifying funding opportunities – in coordination with the CM and HQs team – developing competitive proposals that meet internal standards and address identified needs.
- Guiding the programmatic and M&E teams on tools and strategies to ensure programmes incorporate community and beneficiary feedback, a deep understanding of the operational context, and the application of technical best practices.
- Participating actively in Country Programme management and overseeing project implementation in collaboration with the Programmes Department, ensuring quality and alignment with beneficiary needs.
- Fostering strong teamwork and providing continuous mentorship and oversight to enable team members to successfully fulfill their roles.
- Upholding accountability, compliance, and ethical standards across the implementation of all programmes.
- Ensuring timely donor and government reporting in compliance with agreed standards and NGO procedures.
- Standardizing country-wide implementation methodologies in close coordination with the team, developing operational guidelines and document templates while respecting regional specificities.
Requirements
Requirements
- University Degree in Health Sciences
- A Master’s degree or Diploma in Public Health and/or in PCM will be considered an asset
- Previous experience as PH expert and/or Project Manager of health cooperation projects in fragile or low income countries
- Good knowledge of English and Italian
- Excellent communication skills, dialogue and teamwork
Other information
TERMS OF CONTRACT
Type of contract: collaboration contract
Salary: TBD according to NGO salary grids and compensation policy (basic salary for the position, with possible increase based on professional experience)
Rest days: 2.5 days for each month of work
Flight ticket: one return flight
Health issues: the NGO provides health insurance and covers vaccination costs
Visa and permits: the NGO bears the cost and paperwork for the entry visa to the country of service, any professional registration, work and residence permits
Accommodation: provided by the NGO, it can be individual or shared, depending on the logistical situation, the availability at the workplace and the available budget.
Other costs: the NGO covers costs related to housing utilities and internet; food and personal expenses are covered by the worker
