FHI 360’s Crisis Response team is responding to the humanitarian emergency in Tigray region, focusing on emergency health, nutrition and WASH activities to support the goal of reducing morbidity and mortality.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW 

Under supervision of the Senor Health and Nutrition Officer, the Health and Nutrition officer is responsible for supporting all start-up nutrition activities in FHI 360 program implementation areas in Tigray region. S/he will be responsible for providing technical guidance to ensure that program implementation adheres to appropriate international technical standards and guidelines are technically sound.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DELIVERABLES

  • Implement the standard IMNCI /BEmONC, CMAM protocol, nutritional protocol and medical protocols at SC/OTP/
  • In charge of PHC and OTP/ SC and IYCF quality program implementation and weekly OTP activity
  • Organizes training for IMNCI /RH and OTP /IYCF and gives technical support to HEW
  • Monitors the RUTF and drug status for OTP/SC
  • S/He also supports the SFP programs
  • Participate in capacity building training, in health education sessions and ENA/BCC application
  • Follow up absentees/defaulters and keep current record of both beneficiaries and the staff (CHAs, HDAs, volunteers).
  • Responsible for the outreach work and follow up of community volunteers
  • Responsible for follow up and report of cases referred by Community volunteers
  • Supervises the organization, sanitation, technical quality and availability of supplies in SC/OTP/SFP.
  • Supports the compilation of monthly report.
  • Responsible in mentoring of HEW.
  • Support HEW in recording and reporting of PHC and OTP programs
  • Supports the program integration with DPPO and MoH through on job trainings and supervisions
  • Any other tasks assigned.

Applied Knowledge & Skills:

  • Proficiency with database management software and on-line search tools required.
  • Development of scope of work and deliverables for partners, consultants, etc.
  • Has sensitivity to cultural diversity and understanding of the political, contextual, and ethical issues in assigned areas.
  • Articulate, professional, and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and staff.
  • Basic working knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures with providing technical support for technical research studies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with using Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data, identify errors, and prepare reports.
  • Ability to solve problems and implement corrective action as needed.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.

Supervision Given/Received:

  • Typically reports to Senior Health and Nutrition Officer.

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing /public health or Related Field.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years field experience in humanitarian work, including significant experience in managing integrated projects.
  • Knowledge of latest Nutrition related technical guidelines and standards in emergency nutrition and health.
  • NGO Experience in IMNCI/RH and CMAM/OTP/SC and IYCF included Community engagement program.
  • Strong interpersonal skills & excellent team player.
  • Willingness and ability to work in hardship environment.
  • Cultural and gender sensitivity

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Typical office environment.
  • Ability to spend long hours looking at computer screen and doing repetitive work on a keyboard.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.

Technology to be Used:

  • Personal Computer/Laptop, Microsoft applications (i.e., Office 365, SharePoint, Skype/Zoom/Teams), cell phone/mobile technology, and standard office equipment.

Travel Requirements:

  • 10% – 25%
