Head of Grants Reporting – Chad, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan

This position can be based in any of Inkomoko’s country offices in Africa (currently: Addis Ababa, Juba, Nairobi, N’Djamena, or Kigali).

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Head of Grants Reporting plays a critical role in ensuring Inkomoko’s financial accountability and transparency to donors and stakeholders. This role leads the organization’s grant financial reporting function, ensuring compliance with diverse donor requirements, timely reporting, and strategic use of grant funds. As Inkomoko scales its programs and partnerships, the Head of Grants Reporting will be a trusted partner across departments and country teams, strengthening financial stewardship and donor confidence.

Key Responsibilities

1. Grant Financial Reporting and Compliance

  • Lead the preparation and submission of accurate, timely, and donor-compliant financial reports for all grants.
  • Ensure reporting aligns with donor agreements, budgets, and statutory requirements across countries.
  • Develop and maintain grant reporting calendars, templates, and guidelines to ensure consistency.
  • Coordinate with country finance teams to consolidate financial data and address reporting issues proactively.
  • Work closely with internal and external auditors to ensure grant compliance and readiness for donor audits.

2. Grants Monitoring and Financial Oversight

  • Monitor grant spending and ensure alignment with approved budgets and donor restrictions.
  • Analyze grant financial performance, flag variances, and work with teams to address over/under spending.
  • Partner with budget holders to ensure effective use of grant funds and mitigate financial risks.
  • Support scenario planning and donor pipeline forecasting to align with strategic growth.

3. Donor Engagement and Relationship Management

  • Serve as a key liaison for finance-related donor queries, clarifications, and financial negotiations.
  • Support Development and Program teams during proposal development with budget inputs and financial narratives.
  • Provide financial information to support donor meetings, program reviews, and due diligence processes.
  • Collaborate with the Partnerships team to ensure reporting supports strong donor relationships.

4. Systems, Policies, and Continuous Improvement

  • Strengthen and maintain systems and processes for efficient grant financial reporting.
  • Ensure integration of grant reporting within Inkomoko’s ERP and reporting platforms.
  • Develop and enforce grant reporting policies, controls, and compliance checklists.
  • Drive automation and improvements to enhance accuracy, timeliness, and team capacity.
  • Provide training and capacity building for finance and non-finance staff on grant financial management.

5. Team Leadership and Culture

  • Lead and mentor a team of grants accountants and reporting officers across countries.
  • Foster a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous learning within the grants reporting team.
  • Align the team’s work and culture with Inkomoko’s values and talent framework.
  • Champion cross-team collaboration to embed grant stewardship across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; CPA/ACCA or MBA is an added advantage.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in grants management, financial reporting and compliance, preferably with multi-country operations.
  • Strong knowledge of donor financial management standards and grant agreements.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing donor financial reports, audits, and financial analysis.
  • Strong Excel and financial reporting system skills; experience with ERP and BI tools (e.g., Power BI) is an asset.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills – able to translate complex financial data for diverse audiences.
  • High level of integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to Inkomoko’s mission.
  • Proven leadership experience managing diverse teams in fast-paced environments.
