Role Summary

Do you have a passion for cooking and leading a kitchen that nourishes young minds? Pharo School Homosha is seeking a dedicated and experienced Head Chef to lead our boarding school kitchen and ensure students receive nutritious, high-quality meals every day. As Head Chef, you will play a vital role in supporting students’ health, growth, and well-being by providing safe, balanced, and delicious meals in a positive kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Kitchen Operations

  • Plan, prepare, and supervise the daily preparation of meals for boarding students and staff.
  • Ensure meals are prepared according to the school menu plan and nutrition standards.
  • Monitor food quality, taste, and presentation.
  • Ensure timely serving of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.

Staff Supervision

  • Supervise kitchen cooks, and “Injera” Makers.
  • Assign daily duties and work schedules to kitchen staff.
  • Train staff on proper food preparation, hygiene, and kitchen safety.
  • Ensure discipline, teamwork, and efficiency within the kitchen.

Food Safety & Hygiene

  • Ensure strict adherence to food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen areas, utensils, and equipment.
  • Ensure proper storage of food items and ingredients.
  • Monitor personal hygiene of all kitchen staff.

Inventory & Supplies Management

  • Monitor stock levels of food items and kitchen supplies.
  • Prepare requests for food supplies and ingredients when needed.
  • Ensure proper storage and prevention of food wastage.
  • Keep records of food consumption and kitchen inventory.

Equipment Management

  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of kitchen equipment.
  • Report damaged or malfunctioning kitchen equipment for repair.
  • Ensure safe operation of cooking equipment.

Coordination & Reporting

  • Coordinate with school management on meal planning and special events.
  • Report kitchen operational issues to the Facilities Supervisor.
  • Maintain records of kitchen activities, food usage, and staff attendance.

Working Conditions

  • Based in the school Staff residence within a boarding school environment.
  • May require early morning, evening, or weekend work depending on school meal schedules.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Diploma or Certificate in Food Preparation, Catering, or related field.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in institutional kitchens, boarding schools, hotels, or large kitchens.
  • Experience supervising kitchen staff is preferred.
