Save the Children International has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as the Global Health & Safety and Security Manager in Worldwide: Any existing Save the Children International Regional or Country office

ROLE PURPOSE: 

This is an exciting opportunity for a Health & Safety and Security manager to join the Global Safety and Security team with Save The Children International. Reporting into the Director of Global Safety and Security. The successful candidate will be a key advisor to the Director, Management Committees, Executive Directors and colleagues on workplace and field safety and security risks associated with Save The Children operations.

As the Health & Safety and Security Manager you will help to build and facilitate delivery of health & safety and security standards, processes and regulatory compliance and support the development of a framework. You will also be responsible for creating and embedding a culture that delivers continuous health, safety and security performance improvement.

As a member of the Global Safety and Security (GSS) team, the Health & Safety, and Security Manager will support the management of real-time health & safety and security incidents, develop comprehensive incident datasets in order to deliver, and enhance early warning/ preparedness, continuous improvement. Support the application of evidence-based management decision-making for Country Offices, (CO’s) Regional Offices, (RO’s) SCI and SC Association (SCA).

By combining SCI’s access to several safety, security, social economic and risk platforms, independent research, collaborating with external partners, countries, regional or global teams, this role will proactively lead, manage, and contribute to health & safety, and security projects required or requested. Additionally, in order to more specifically support and inspire our three breakthroughs, the global strategic plan, and programming priorities of SCI and its partners, the role holder will also be tasked with identifying, leading and coordinating key programmes for health & safety, and security that address prevailing assumptions and challenges related to enabling programming for children.

This is a new and exciting role and although not limited to, the likely tasks led by the role holder would include; independent research, production of person or virtual briefings, briefing papers, bulletins, reports and other products on health, safety and security across international programmes. The role holder will also assist GSS and SCI to develop, and lead specific partnerships with key safety and security forums, academics, analyst groups, and think-tanks.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 8 years of health & safety and security related work experience and training with an understanding of general safety and security practices and procedures.
  • NEBOSH or NCRQ Diploma level qualification or equivalent qualification
  • Chartered Member/ Graduate member of Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)
  • Significant experience of successfully devising and implementing organization-wide health & safety and security management systems and projects
  • Significant international health & safety and security experience, and experience of applying HSS principles across a range of workplace environments, ideally within a humanitarian context
  • Risk management experience, including risk assessment of sites and interaction with other risk management activities within organizations
  • Ability to establish collaborative and productive relationships with people at all levels of Save the Children International
  • Be flexible, proactive and people focused
  • Excellent writing, editing and analytical skills, and ability to formulate well-targeted policy recommendations
  • Experienced in providing insight to senior stakeholders using story-telling narratives, supported by the use of graphs/chart/maps when necessary
  • Written and spoken fluency in English, proficiency in a second or third language preferred
  • Ability to work in a matrix management environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including good public presentation skills, and a very strong capacity for effective teamwork.
  • Experience in using internal systems (finance, grant management, etc.) to extract relevant data to use on wider GSS analysis
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and often demanding environment

We can offer circa £53,000 per annum (If based in London, UK) with an option of flexible working hours. If the role is based outside of the UK, National T&C (including pay) will apply.

This role can be based in London or any existing Save the Children International office location on approval, provided the successful candidate has proof of eligibility to work from the preferred location.
