The organization is looking for experienced candidate to its Country Office, where it is providing programmatic leadership and support on HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and care, for the following position.


Position Summary:

The Girls Act & YPP Officer works closely with the AHF HIV Prevention, Advocacy and Marketing Department team in the design and implementation of interventions for Girls Act and Young People program activities. This post holder will take the lead in enabling the program to empower and develop the knowledge and skills of adolescent and youth, which will involve working through and with youth groups, providing them with opportunities, and capacitate and promote youth leadership, and reproductive health. He/she will also promote activities aimed at preparing youth for their role as young adults, parents and leaders who will bring lasting and positive change to their communities. The employee will play key role in building protective and enabling environments for program participants by supporting them through peer or Youth groups/clubs to deal with risks and respond to specific threats of HIV to Adolescent and Youth and also having access to and using the necessary health service for themselves and helping others.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Take the lead role in the implementation of AHF Ethiopia’s Girls Act & Young People support activities that are being implemented in AHF programs. S/he makes sure that the interventions are fully integrated and coordinated in the existing programs
  • In collaboration with Advocacy & Marketing Coordinator and Counselor Coordinator, conduct assessment and review of literatures to design and update a standard Girls Act & YPP program and provide a consolidated strategic direction that will be part of AHF-Ethiopia’s program document
  • Work closely with Advocacy and Prevention Department Team to design a training curriculum for Girls Act and Young People Programs, select intervention areas, sites and recruit participants
  • Establish site level technical working group for the smooth implementation of the program, develop TOR for the technical working group, develop selection criteria for enrollment to the program and conduct regular meeting to review the progress of the program
  • In collaboration with Prevention, Advocacy and Marketing department team and site level technical working group, select, train, monitor and supervise the peer education facilitators;
  • Select program participants based on the pre-defined selection criteria
  • Facilitate the cascading of TOT trainings and assure subsequent sessions are undertaken as per the predetermined standards
  • Collect the weekly reporting data and attendance based on the standard report capturing tool, develop best practices, success stories and lesson learnt and  report to immediate supervisor(s)  and ME team on regular basis
  • In collaboration with Prevention and Medical Team, facilitate the HIV, STI, Hepatitis and cervical cancer screening testing for the program participants; link the identified positives to service providers and prepare the report as per the standard reporting template and procedure
  • Plan, organize and monitor required program logistics and meeting facilities whenever necessary
  • Create, monitor and implement program related social media portfolio sites as assigned
  • Initiate the development and disseminate educational and informative materials relevant to the development of involved Girls Act & YPP program
  • Assist in community mobilization and behavioral change campaign to bring about positive change in primary HIV prevention, care and treatment practices and safe behaviors transitioning into adulthood
  • Promote youth leadership program in school and out of school settings on which youth exercise leadership, communications and find solutions for community problems
  • Identify advocacy issues of young people and girls and work with Advocacy/ Marketing and Prevention team in bringing policy changes that can create an enabling environment to keep their health and realize their vision
  • Promote the Girls Act and Young People Program through appropriate marketing strategies
  • Work with  Prevention, Advocacy and Marketing team in jointly planning and facilitating advocacy campaigns like WAD, ICD, IWD, MHD
  • Assist in liaising with local government structures, CSOs, CBOs, FBOs, and other partners for effective implementation of program
  • Represent AHF-Ethiopia in matters related to GA & YPP at national and regional meetings, dissemination workshops, etc.
  • Participate in AHF’s research activities and compile evidences to identify appropriate, cost-effective GA & YPP program components and put into practice in the preparation of programs
  • Execute other activities related to the position as given by the Prevention Program & AU Advocacy Liaison Manager or Country Program Manager

Job Requirements

Education, Qualification, and Experience:

  • Minimum of Bachelor of Science in Public Health, Psychology, Sociology or Social Work, Nursing or related fields  from a recognized university; Having further education such as MPH, Reproductive health or Epidemiology would be an advantage
  • At least five (05) years’ NGO experience with a strong exposure to HIV programs particularly targeting children, adolescent, youth, and community development related programs
  • Experience and knowledge on other HIV prevention, treatment, care & support programs, and exposure to related advocacy activities would be an advantage
  • Proven written and oral communication skills in English, including public speaking experience and training facilitation skills
  • Proficient in computer and internet skills, including word processing, database and presentation software; experience with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, cross-cultural, organizational, and time-management skills with attention to details
  • Ability to take initiative, be flexible, and work independently and with good team spirit
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, coordinate activities in multiple locations
