Profile of Ethiopian Veterinary Association (EVA)

The Ethiopian Veterinary Association (EVA) is an autonomous non-for-profit professional membership organization in Ethiopia, established on June 22, 1974 through the initiative of 13 visionary veterinarians. The association is a member of the World Veterinary Association. It has a mandate of promoting and strengthening the veterinary profession, respect professional ethics and code of conduct, and above all to safe guard the right of veterinarians. The Ethiopian Veterinary Association is registered on July 3rd, 2019 and accorded legal personality with Registry Number 0495 as local organization in accordance with the Civil Society Organizations Proclamation no. 1113/2019. Having close to 2000 members, the association is dedicated to policy advocacy, development, promotion, and dissemination of knowledge and good practices in the livestock sector and serving the interest of the society.

Currently, The Ethiopian Veterinary Association (EVA) is seeking to recruit competent professional for the post, General Manager, for its Secretariat Office. Qualified professionals who meet the specified requirements are invited to apply.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

The manager will be responsible for the overall leadership and management of the EVA secretariat office. She/he will have following responsibilities:

  • Represent EVA in its official dealings as per the directives of the executive board.
  • Implement the decision of the general assembly and the executive.
  • Plan and execute resource mobilization activities for the association;
  • Networking through and liaise with stakeholders and represent EVA in forums nationally and internationally.
  • Provide the necessary support to the editorial board of Ethiopian Veterinary Journal and implement decisions of the board.
  • Work closely with partner government offices, NGOs, UN agencies, the private sectors, livestock producers and their organizations to forge smooth relationship and coordination.
  • In collaboration with the executive aboard and EVA staff, actively engage in proposal development and application to project grants;
  • Proactively engage in advocacy works on matters related to the livestock sector, the veterinary profession, animal health service and related issues.
  • Prepare and submit the association’s activity plan including budget to the executive board.
  • Monitor EVA’s professional activities including financial performance.
  • Submit quarterly and yearly activity and financial reports to the executive board.
  •  Follow up, coordinate, supervise and direct all activities of the employees of the association.

Employment type: One year contract with possible extension

Pace of work: Addis Ababa, with possible travel within and outside Ethiopia

 

Job Requirements

Job Requirement and skills

  •  Passionate and dedicated veterinarian with an in-depth understanding about the livestock sector and the veterinary profession;
  • Excellent leadership skill, result-oriented and problem-solving attitude;
  • Experience to work closely with government offices, NGOs, development partners, the private sector, livestock producers and their organizations.
  • Demonstrate creative, entrepreneurial and resourceful approach to livestock agriculture in particular animal health with an understanding of sustainable development.
  • Training on office management or project management or Monitoring & Evaluation or related fields will be an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of Ms Office suite and use of the internet;
  • Expert ability in analysis of information (data) and interpretation of results.
  • Efficient communicator with excellent command of written and spoken English, and Amharic.
  • Able to demonstrate team building and strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage complex and sensitive organizational relationships.
  • She/he should be member of the Ethiopian Veterinary Association
  • She/he shall have a DVM or post graduate degree in veterinary medicine
  • A minimum of 5 years professional experience of which 3 years demonstrated experience in office/project management including human resource management, budgeting, report-writing, proposal development, and monitoring and evaluation of projects.
