ORDAETHIOPIA is a non-governmental organization dedicated to improve livelihood and environmental security in Amhara Region as well as in Ethiopia since 1984 G.C. It envisaged to bring the above changes in the community by working on environment and climate change, water and irrigation, agriculture, nutrition and disaster risk management, gender, disability inclusion and youth Employment and food commodity management and emergency response interventions. ORDA Ethiopia is a highly result oriented organization with dedicated management and competent staffs. ORDA Ethiopia would like to invite competent candidates who fulfill the requirements of the vacancy indicated below.

Program overview

Mass Youth Employment in Apiculture (MaYEA) program is a five-year youth employment creation program funded by Mastercard Foundation to be implemented in 9(nine) regions of Ethiopia. The program is divided in to two sub national hubs. ORDA Ethiopia, as a lead organization will coordinate the implementation of program in 61 woredas of the North and North West Ethiopia hub of the program includes Amhara, Afar, Benishangul Gumuz and Tigray Regions. The program plans to help jobless youth to create jobs for themselves by participating them mainly in apiculture value chain and other complimentary value chains. The main interventions of the program are i) increasing national honey and bees wax production; ii) improving honey quality to meet both national and international standards; iii) promoting market-driven value addition and product diversification; iv) enhancing integration of apiculture with other complementary value chains; and  v) improving enabling environment for youth and apiculture sector development.

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for leading on gender and youth engagement and safeguarding within the program. It will be required to provide support and advice on gender and youth engagement, safeguarding, and related policies and procedures. Coordinate the program’s gender and youth engagement and safeguarding activities, and be responsible for developing and delivering training and awareness-raising sessions.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Developing and leading on gender and youth engagement initiatives
  • Developing and delivering TOT to program and IPs cluster staffs on safeguarding.
  • Creating outreach and engagement programmes for young people
  • Proactively works with other program team members of the program and partners to ensure the safe and meaningful engagement of female and young people.
  • Ensure ORDA Ethiopia safeguarding policy is familiarized among the program staff.
  • Work with ORDA Ethiopia safe guarding focal point on installing safeguarding cases reporting system and functioning of the system.
  • Aware on MCF Child and Youth Safeguarding Guideline for the program and IPs staffs.
  • Ensure that the 80% the MAYEA program beneficiaries are young women.
  • Provide technical backstopping to clusters on the theme
  • Supporting youth groups to build capacity and develop effective strategies on safeguarding and gender
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders
  • Prepare gender and safeguarding related reports for the Sub National Hub Program Director.
  • Conduct other activities as deemed necessary.

Job Requirements

Minimum qualifications and requirements:

Education Background

  • Master’s degree in Law, Gender, sociology, psychology, 

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 8(eight) years with relevant experience of four years
  • Two years in managerial position
  • Experience in International NGOs
  • Substantial experience of gender and youth engagement and safe guarding in development setting.
  • Experience at providing advice, developing and delivering on keeping female and young people safe on a diverse range of issues and to a diverse audience.
  • Demonstrable experience of working with youth

Skills/Knowledge and Competencies

  • Knowledge and understanding of meaningful participation and engagement of female and young people and deep understanding of safeguarding and protection issues that may arise.
  • Expertise, technical knowledge and substantial experience in responding to issues, breaches and investigation and case management.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills.
  • Knowledge of human rights, young people rights, inclusion and gender equality
  • Knowledge and experience on safe programing
  • Ability to change behaviour/attitudes in non-confrontational manner and with evidence.
  • Excellent report writing in English
  • Advanced computer skills
