EngenderHealth seeks applications from well-qualified and experienced candidates to serve as Gender Youth and Social Inclusion (GYSI) Advisor for its SSD project funded by The Bill Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF).

EngenderHealth is collaborating with JSI lead consortium partners on Strengthening Service Delivery (SSD) project in Ethiopia. The SSD project works to improve the quality of downstream, supply-side integrated services, focusing on high impact areas including strengthening provider competencies to deliver integrated, high-quality services; improving service delivery structures and processes required for high-quality care; and improving the last-mile delivery of the supplies and commodities.

EngenderHealth is seeking a high-level Gender Youth and Social Inclusion (GYSI),  who serves as core member of the technical team of SSD project consortium organizations and  provide technical expertise and oversight to integrate Gender, Youth and Social inclusion with in the project and project supported activities.

JOB SUMMARY

The Gender Youth and Social Inclusion (GYSI) Advisor will be part of the technical advisor’s team for SSD consortium organizations.  They will serve as lead technical expert and provide technical assistance and guidance to JSI lead consortium partners on Gender, Youth and Social Inclusion (GYSI) to ensure women, youth, and other underserved populations are prioritized into all project activities. They work with the EngenderHealth Ethiopia country office GYSI and program/technical team, global office, and SSD project consortium partners; to develop and implement evidence based GYSI interventions and assist the SSD project to integrate GYSI programs into other programmatic areas with focus on empowering women, young people and other vulnerable population and addressing their needs. The advisor will be responsible for development/adaptation and implementation of GYSI analysis, work plan, training materials and tools for use within the organization, SSD project, and partners. She/he will be responsible for designing and implementing SRHR activities and programs for adolescents and other underserved adolescent/youth groups. They will also represent EngenderHealth and SSD project at relevant platforms related to gender, youth, and social inclusion. They will also identify, document, disseminate, adapt, and replicate best practices related to gender, adolescent, and youth interventions in Ethiopia. They will ensure that all EngenderHealth programs in Ethiopia and SSD project activities are evidence based and strive towards realizing gender and youth transformative and socially inclusive change.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide technical expertise in the contextualization of EngenderHealth’ s Global Gender, Youth and Social Inclusion strategy, framework and tools for the country program and SSD project
  • Work closely with SSD project and the local program and HR staffs to contextualize a GYSI orientations package and ensure GYSI policies and initiatives are integrated into SSD project interventions and at workplaces through training, mentorship and supervision
  • Design/develop innovative strategies and approaches/tools that help EngenderHealth and all SSD project consortiums partners to apply Gender, Youth and Social inclusion lens in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of project supported activities
  • Collaborate with SSD project advisors to implement strategies and approaches/tools to enhance gender equality, male engagement, and meaningful youth participation in project activities and in PHC delivery
  • Assist country program teams and SSD project partners to self-assess the degree of gender, youth, and social inclusion, using EngenderHealth’ s GYSI Marker, analyze results and provide inputs to enhance transformative approaches for gender and youth programming
  • In collaboration with EngenderHealth and SSD project partners, participate actively in identifying, carrying out potential operational research, establish data and evidence on gender, youth, and social inclusion interventions
  • Represent EngenderHealth and SSD partners to provide technical assistance on GYSI at relevant government, non-government, and private sector platforms at national and local level
  • As assigned, represent the country program at appropriate technical working groups and partner’s meetings
  • Document best practices and lessons learned in implementing gender equality and youth development activities in the project and share for inclusion in the quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports
  • Compile/produce and ensure timely submission of (monthly, quarterly, semiannual and annual and as needed) reports
  • Carry out other EngenderHealth and SSD partners assignments as may be required and as directed by immediate supervisor

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in gender studies/or other social science with master’s degree in public health or bachelor’s degree in health-related fields with master’s degree in Gender studies or other social science related fields with minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in International NGO setting
  • Demonstrated capacity and experience in designing and managing GYSI related programs/projects/interventions or providing technical leadership and expertise in GYSI
  • Experience with and understanding of the Ministry of Health, Women and social Affairs, and Ministry of Education with commendable understanding on the Education system and the health service delivery system

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

  • In-depth knowledge of gender transformative approaches including male engagement, meaningful youth participation, and social inclusion
  • Commendable knowledge on women, adolescent and youth and other vulnerable population with energetic and enthusiastic approach to work with such dynamics group
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and demands, establish priorities, and work effectively in a deadline driven environment; accuracy and attention to detail in the performance of duties is of critical importance
  • Outstanding ability to interact with young people, experts and collaborators across multiple disciplines, program areas, and cultures with exceptional ability to lead, mentor and support teams.
  • Fluency in written and oral English with ability to articulate and presents ideas, opinions, and information in a clear, concise, structured and convincing manner for the intended audience.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, interpersonal, teamwork, and partnering skills
  • Computer literate, with knowledge of Windows applications, including Excel spreadsheets

PREFERRED SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND FUNCTIONS

  • Fluency in English language proficiency strongly preferred
  • Ability to travel up to 50%
