Duration of Contract:                 One-year contract, Renewable (with 60 working days probation period)

 Job Summary

Gender, Youth and Social Dynamics officer will be responsible for leading project woreda implementation of gender, youth, and social dynamics integration strategies of Resilient Food Security Activity (RFSA) project. The position holder will support and coordinate gender analysis and studies to explore youth engagement.  To ensure program activities result in positive outcomes for male and female participants of different age groups, S/he will have overall responsibility for building team members’ and partners’ capacity to integrate GYSD perspective into activities. Overall S/he will be accountable for coordinating, planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of the GYSD components of the Development Resilient Food Security Activity at project  Woreda level(RFSA).

 

Principal Responsibilities

Key Result #1. planning, monitoring, and implementation 

1.       Involve in planning, implementation, budget management, and reporting of Gender Youth and social dynamics components;

2.       Ensure the implementation of Gender and Youth Integration Work Plan of the RFSA sectors (GYIWP)

3.       Following gender, youth, and social Dynamics activities are implemented as per the Annual Activity and Budget Plan approved by the project

4.       Support/participate in designing and conducting gender-specific and sectoral surveys, assessments, formative researches to

ensure consideration of gender, youth, and social dynamics issues, collection of sex, age and disability disaggregated data, gender-responsive data analysis, and reporting

5.       Provide technical advice to the project manager in the area of Gender, Youth, and social dynamics activities during planning;

6.        Ensure proper records are available to respond to the RFSA result framework indicators

7.       Produce and share progress reports (monthly, quarterly and annual) on the due date and submit them to the project office and Head office

8.       Keep recordings of all documents, lessons learned, and success of Gender youth and social dynamics project implementation.

9.       Based on the annual activity and budget plan, make regular field visits to beneficiary households and furnish monitoring reports to the project manager for timely decision making;

Key Result #2 Staff training, Networking, and learning

1.       Actively develop networks and partnerships with internal and external actors including local government offices, especially with woreda, kebele, and community task forces, and assist them in the process of setting up criteria for targeting and planning of activities at all levels

2.       Contribute to the development of strategies to engage women, girls, and youth more fully in the development and decision-making processes that affect their lives

3.       Facilitates the establishment of mechanisms to ensure that services are in place to meet the needs of women, girls, boys, and men equally.

4.       Provides staff induction and ongoing training/capacity building training to FHE-RFSA and government stakeholder staff

5.       Leads the development and facilitation of training on staff development initiatives for gender, youth, and social dynamics

6.       Assist project team for quality and timely submission of Gender-sensitive periodic progress reports in relation to GYIWP.

Gender Responsibility

⮚       Provide adequate time to staff to participate in gender and other capacity-building workshops.

⮚       Through observation, interviews, and spot-checks, ensure that the staff planning process is gender-sensitive.

⮚       Build a better gender balance in staffing through affirmative action.

⮚       Observe if women staff are as involved as men in high-profile activities such as interaction with visitors and chairing meetings, and take corrective action if warranted.

⮚       Encourage female staff to participate in external networks (local and regional), as well as seminars and cross visits.

⮚       Facilitate open and regular discussions with staff about the work environment, policies, and values convenient to gender issues

Safety & Security Responsibility

⮚       Encourages compliance of Safety and Security principles and policies of the organization by all staff;

⮚       Visiting operational areas periodically to meet staff and making sure that all staff members are aware of the safety and security procedures;

⮚       Explains to staffs the reasoning behind the organization’s safety and security policies and procedures

⮚       Organizing local training sessions, such as First Aid, Fire Safety, and Defensive Driving for staff members.  If possible, he/she should conduct briefing and training sessions himself/herself;

⮚       Ensures that safety and security objectives are added to performance reviews and evaluations of all staff members;

Encourages staff to adopt safe and secure practices. Ensuring that updated personnel information related to safety (Record of Emergency Data) and security management are kept in Human resources.

Experience

⮚       3 years related experience in a relevant position Preferably in INGO Setting

Education/Certifications

⮚       BA in Development & Gender Studies, Sociology or relevant field of study.

Distinguishing Competencies

⮚       Strong computer skills and knowledge in the area of MS word, MS Excel, MS Access, PowerPoint, and email communication.

⮚       High level of initiative-taking.

⮚       Training on gender mainstreaming, gender analysis, community dialogue facilitation skills is an added advantage

Language

Proficiency in both spoken and written English. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Knowledge of the local language of the intervention area is preferred.
