 Remote to CARE USA hub countries: Kenya, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Jordan, Egypt, Ecuador, Guatemala, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Thailand.

For US locations – Atlanta, Washington, DC (non-remote); other US states where CARE USA is registered.

The Global Gender Cohort helps lead the advancement of gender equality globally through contributing to CARE’s Global VISION 2030 and the CARE USA Strategy. The Global Gender Cohort provides quality gender technical assistance through a strong network of internal and external consultants to meet CARE’s global demand for gender technical assistance throughout its programming and for a growing base of external clients. It also invests in building gender capacity across the organization. The Global Gender Cohort Lead is a member of the CARE USA Gender Justice Team (GJT) that sits within the Program Strategy and Impact (PSI) division at CARE.

The Global Gender Cohort Director reports directly to the Associate VP and is responsible for driving the success of the cohort as a consulting group and business venture. This requires strong business development acumen, experience and skills, strategic vision, a forward-thinking mindset and the ability to swiftly execute priority actions that will drive the success of the Gender Cohort, expand its reach and influence and ensure revenue. The director will provide management support to a Gender Cohort Senior Technical Advisor and will be required to drive a successful business model working with other CARE technical assistance entities and technical teams such as CEI and CIP. With the aim to create a viable sustainable enterprise, the post holder will continuously assess needs, ensure the provision of quality services in line with demands, monitor the financial well- being of the Gender Cohort and adjust costing to ensure revenue generation and financial health.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Management and supervision: provide supportive supervision for the Gender Cohort Senior Technical Advisor (can expand depending upon funding levels).
  • Strategic oversight and growth of the gender cohort business model: review and strengthen cohort model to drive growth, quality and appropriate costing that is fit for purpose. Identify strategic assignments that will advance CARE’s gender programming and practice. Conduct regular market and landscape analysis with quarterly review, forecasting and setting of growth benchmarks. Lead proactive outreach, networking, marketing and communication to promote the Cohort’s services within and outside of CARE in an effort to increase demand with both internal and external clients. Establish a set of services and related costing for training and technical support. Foster external and potential new client base.
  • Coordinate demand driven quality gender technical assistance: oversee quality and accountability of gender cohort’s work. Develop and foster strong and effective relationships with the GJ team and across the organization (includes CARE USA and CI) providing demand driven technical assistance in gender transformative programming.
  • Financial and administrative management of global gender cohort: Oversee cohort administration, including preparation of MOUs and agreement letters for new and extension of assignments. Develop a financial strategy (with targets) for the global gender cohort balancing internal access to quality gender TA, while leveraging CARE’s offer of quality gender TA to external clients. Support regular review and alignment of the global gender cohort’s costing model to meet its financial needs through internal and external revenue.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Sciences, preferably with an academic emphasis on gender or formal training in gender studies and/or deep experience in gender programming.
  • Strong business development skills and experience – including Business Development strategy and execution (market analysis, forecasting and target setting).
  • Strong networking, connecting and relationship building skills, including experience/track record in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with diverse stakeholders across CARE and externally.
  • Financial literacy / budget management.
  • Negotiation skills and ability to be propositional.
  • Highly responsive communicator, solution-focused.
  • Excellent professional written skills in English.
  • Well-rounded gender technical expertise.
  • Basic social media acumen.
  • Knowledge and relationships across the CARE global network (Country Offices; Regions, HQ, CMPs, CI) is a plus.
