Job Description

Talent Youth Association (TaYA) in partnership with Amref Health Africa implements Kefeta in Addis Abeba and Debrebirhan city. Kefeta envisions Ethiopian youths who are game changers: empowered to advance their own economic, civic, and social development; resilient in the face of shocks; actively promoting development within their communities and contributing to the country’s peace and prosperity.

Kefeta will strengthen the youth ecosystem in Ethiopia with integrated, multi-sectoral, youth-centered programming aligned with the Positive Youth Development (PYD) approach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Map out, mobilize and motivate out-of-school youth in the vicinity of the target city to join in a functional Literacy program.
  • Develop a comprehensive weekly and daily lesson plan that depends on the out-of-school youth’s needs and implement it promptly as necessary.
  • Facilitate lessons and instructional activities with the principle of experiential learning, learner interests, level of learner’s literacy and numeracy skill, and inclusive & gender-responsive sessions.
  • Create a supportive and positive classroom environment and work to create youth-friendly learning environments.
  • Prepare instructional aid materials, coursework materials, homework assignments, and handouts to boost out-of-school youth independent learning activities.
  • Establish positive relationships and communication with learners and partners.
  • Monitor & track the performance of learners, records, and documents, and discuss the lessons learned and possible corrective actions.
  • Prepare and administer Functional Literacy Assessment tools and ensure the government functional literacy assessment tools.
  • Collaborate with other Kefeta technical officers to integrate the functional literacy program with other capacity building and Kefeta’s service packages.
  • Capacitate youth volunteer who works for mentoring out-of-school youth for their independent learning.
  • Prepare and submit Functional Literacy activities progress reports.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • BA degree/Diploma in education, adult education, and other related fields.
  • A minimum of six-month experience in teaching young people, facilitating functional adult literacy sessions, and other non-formal education programs.
  • Experience in teaching adult literacy and numeracy is a plus

Technical and other Skills

  • Able to mobilize out-of-school youth and the ability to work with young people at their preferred time including out-of-working hours.
  • Able to read and write proficiently in the targeted city instructional languages.
  • Able to demonstrate a high level of integrity, flexibility, and teamwork.
  • Able to facilitate inclusively and gender-responsive pedagogic sessions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in both local and English languages.
  • Willing to work at youths’ preference time including on the weekend and evening
