Job Brief

We looking for a Food Safety Quality Assurance (FSQA) Manager to join our team. FSQA manager is responsible for directing food safety, quality assurance and sanitation programs at our food production and sales facilities. S/he helps to ensure that all products created at a manufacturing facility meet food safety, customer, and federal compliance. S/he provides training, support and supervise a team of quality assurance employees/technicians.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mange the execution of all food safety management systems and programs
  • Ensure quality control of raw materials and finished products
  • Assist in setting quality standards and ensure that production is maintained at such standards
  • Maintain the long-term continuity of production and service quality
  • Keep records of all tests conducted
  • Oversee the daily workflow and schedules of the quality department
  • Provide training and support to quality assurance and production teams on systems, policies, procedures and core processes
  • Create training materials to support staff and lead in food safety demonstrations
  • Identify and analyze non-conformance issues then recommend and facilitate solutions to these issues
  • Analyze and investigate product complaints or reported quality issues
  • Be authorized to release product, issue certificates of analysis, initiate recall procedure and recommend corrective actions
  • Ensure all check sheets are correctly completed and all noncompliance situations that are found have the correct action taken and signed off
  • Collaborate with manufacturing plan operation on new products
  • Arrange, coordinate and participate in external quality audits
  • Ensure that the Quality Assurance department is properly organized, staffed and trained to meet and achieve company and departmental goals
  • Perform as plant contact person for food safety and quality assurance issues
  • Serve as an advocate of company’s food safety culture
  • Assist company leadership in managing local, regional, customer/third party, and federal food audits and inspections
  • Maintain, improve, and develop systems to support the company’s food safety programs
  • Ensure compliance with local, regional, and federal guidelines and regulations
  • Organize and lead monthly food safety team meetings
  • Organize sanitation team to improve sanitation program and correct deficiencies
  • Responsible for internal audits and assist in corrective actions when necessary
  • Responsible for understanding and leading the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards (Safe Quality Food – SQF) implementation and re-certification
  • Oversee Corrective And Preventive Actions (CAPA) program and investigation of customer complaints regarding food safety and quality
  • Oversee and conduct annual and ongoing training for company employees
  • Oversee compliance with the Hazard Analysis and Risk-based Preventive Controls (HARPC) provision in the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA)
  • Work with purchasing department to manage supplier quality and compliance
  • Monitor industry and regulatory updates, trends, and news to keep the company informed and ahead of the curve.

Job Requirements

Education/Training Required

  • Master’s degree in biology, microbiology, food science, chemistry or a related degree is needed
  • Typically, 5-10 years of experience as a quality assurance or quality control technician is required prior to entering this managerial role
  • Must have or complete certification status as Certified Food Safety Manager or equivalent
  • HACCP certified and very strong HACCP and regulatory skills
  • Understanding of management principles and team concepts
  • Perform as plant contact person for sales and customer issues
  • Ensure that the Quality Assurance department is properly organized, staffed and trained to meet and achieve plant and departmental goals.

Experience

  • 5-10 years of Food Safety Quality Assurance (FSQA) experience in manufacturing/food industries.
