Fixed Asset – Financial Accountant

Job Description

An exciting vacant position has arisen at East Africa Bottling Share Company – Ethiopia for the role of Fixed Asset-Financial Accountant. The position is structured to report to the Country Lead: Financial Control.

Key Purpose Statement 

Fixed Asset- Financial Accountant is responsible to ensure accurate accounting, control, and reporting of fixed assets and capital expenditure in compliance with IFRS and company policies, while supporting financial integrity and effective asset lifecycle management.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Fixed Asset Management & Reporting

  • Maintain and manage the fixed asset register, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with IFRS.
  • Record asset acquisitions, disposals, transfers, and depreciation in a timely manner.
  • Perform monthly asset reconciliations and ensure alignment with the general ledger.
  • Prepare fixed asset schedules and disclosures for monthly and annual financial reporting.

Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) Management

  • Monitor and control capital expenditure, ensuring proper authorization and alignment with approved budgets.
  • Track capital projects, ensuring accurate capitalization and timely closure.
  • Partner with operations and project teams to ensure correct classification of costs (capital vs expense).

Depreciation & Asset Lifecycle Management

  • Calculate and review depreciation in line with company policies and IFRS standards.
  • Ensure proper asset tagging, tracking, and lifecycle management from acquisition to disposal.
  • Conduct periodic asset verification and physical counts, resolving discrepancies.

Reconciliations & Financial Close

  • Perform monthly fixed asset reconciliations and support timely financial close processes.
  • Investigate and resolve variances related to asset balances and depreciation.
  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of asset-related journal entries.

Audit & Compliance

  • Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation and explanations.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls,requirements, and company policies.
  • Maintain proper documentation for all asset transactions and capital projects.

Tax & Regulatory Compliance

  • Support tax calculations related to fixed assets, including deferred tax and capital allowances.
  • Ensure compliance with local statutory and regulatory requirements related to assets.

Process Improvement & Controls

  • Identify opportunities to improve asset management processes and controls.
  • Implement best practices to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with finance, procurement, and operations teams on asset-related matters.
  • Provide insights on capital investments and asset utilization.

Skills, Experience & Education

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Finance.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years in finance, with expertise in:
      • Financial Accounting
      • Fixed Asset Management

    Preferred Skills:

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficiency in accounting software and IFRS systems.
