The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a German implementing organization which provides services worldwide in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. We work to shape a future worth living in over 120 countries around the world.

The GIZ Office in Addis Ababa oversees projects in Ethiopia and Djibouti where GIZ works on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the German Federal Ministry of Nutrition and Agriculture (BMEL) and other commissioning parties.

The finance department of GIZ Country office Addis Ababa ensures that all financial transactions are executed and reported timely, correctly, and according to GIZ’s rules and regulations. It is also responsible for insuring smooth fund flow from the GIZ country office to programs and projects. The department oversees handling the opening, closing and signatory adjustment of bank accounts. It also liaises with HQ and recipients of financial agreements concluded in Germany in terms of effecting installment payments, follow-up settlements and report to headquarter.

The Finance department is looking for an intern who has a finance educational background

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate effectively with members of the finance team.
  • Provide support in both accounting and administrative functions within the finance unit.
  • Prepare cheques and deposit slips for payments to be made through bank.
  • Make all cash, bank, and cheque payments,
  • Collect proper and valid receipt or invoice and attachment from recipients (where applicable) and attach with corresponding voucher.
  • Issue Original Withholding Tax receipt wherever applicable and attach copy with the Payment Voucher
  • Issue Cash Receipt Voucher when cash is collected and prepare ‘Accounts Receipt Voucher’
  • Register cash and bank Payments and Receipts in Cash book daily.
  • Request for replenishment when cash account reaches its minimum level
  • Inform superiors when Bank Book balance reaches minimum level.
  • Ensure proper filing of paid documents
  • Follow up pending payments and inform to the respective project or your superior for further action.
  • Reconcile Cash Book balance with physical cash count at the end of the day.
  • Perform any other duty as may be required

Key Tasks:

General Services / Other Duties:

  • Ensure full compliance with GIZ Processes and Rules as well as the GIZ Ethiopia National Personnel Policy.
  • Carry out other duties and tasks assigned by the Team Leader, as necessary.
  • Participate actively in finance team meetings and collaborative activities.

Qualifications

  • BA degree in Accounting and Finance, Business administration or related fields.

Professional experience

  • At least 6 months working experience with GIZ Ethiopia
  • 1 year Experience

Other knowledge, additional competencies

  • Knowledge of English language both in speaking and writing.
  • Good working knowledge of ITC technologies (E-mail, internet, and computer applications such as MS Office)
  • Strong interpersonal and service skills.
