Mission and objectives
UNICEF Ethiopia is implementing a 5-year country programme 2020-2025 which is fully aligned with the UNSDCF. UNICEF will work collaboratively within the UNSDCF on a joint strategy to strengthen national systems for data collection, analysis, monitoring and applying adjustments to promote equity. Evidence will be used to monitor the situation of children, tracking progress towards equity and scale, and to inform advocacy to adjust policies, strategies and budgets. Monitoring and corrective actions will be undertaken through UNICEF staff, partners and third-party monitoring, and through mechanisms for community feedback and accountability to affected populations.
Context
The UNV will work with finance and administration team of 35 staff. The UNV will gain experience in accounts, finance, internal controls and risk management. The finance team delas with 177 government and civil society organizations.
Processing over 5000 payments to vendors in a year and disbursing over US$ 110 million to partners for programme activities. The UNV will also work with operations staff in the 8 field offices in Tigray, Amhara, Afar, Somali, Oromia, Gambela, Benishangul-Gumuz, and Hawassa.
Task description
Under the direct supervision of Operations Manager, the National UN Youth Volunteer will:
• Support accuracy and valid submission of documents for VAT refund from Federal Revenue and Tax Authority
• Follow up with vendors whenever there is a problem with invoices for VAT refund
• Assist in the follow up of with Federal Revenue and Tax Authority after submission of VAT claims
• Assist in follow up with regions on letters confirming receipt of VAT from vendors
• Maintain VAT follow up work sheet, register the rejected VATs and update actions taken
• Provide administrative support to the Staff Association community engagement activities
• Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor Results/Expected Outputs:
• Monthly submission of VAT claims to Federal Revenue and Tax Authority
• Reconciled and up to date VAT general ledger
• Escalate issues which requires immediate decision
