The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a German implementing organization which provides services worldwide in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. We work to shape a future worth living in over 120 countries around the world.

The GIZ Office in Addis Ababa oversees projects in Ethiopia and Djibouti where GIZ works on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the German Federal Ministry of Nutrition and Agriculture (BMEL) and other commissioning parties.

The finance department of GIZ Country office Addis Ababa ensures that all financial transactions are executed and reported timely, correctly, and according to GIZ’s rules and regulations. It is also responsible for insuring smooth fund flow from the GIZ country office to programs and projects. The department oversees handling the opening, closing and signatory adjustment of bank accounts. It also liaises with HQ and recipients of financial agreements concluded in Germany in terms of effecting installment payments, follow-up settlements and report to headquarter.

The Finance department is looking for an intern who has a financé educational background.

Responsibilities:

·         Coordinate effectively with members of the finance team.

·         Provide support in both accounting and administrative functions within the finance unit.

Key Tasks:

·         Support the preparation and submission of periodic tax reports to the relevant tax authorities.

·         Assist in preparing invoices for posting and payment processing.

·         Monitor outstanding invoices and follow up on missing documentation.

·         Maintain proper filing of payment vouchers and supporting documents.

·         Compile, organize, and archive all documents required for VAT and WHT reporting, tax audits, and statutory compliance.

·         Compile VAT refund invoices and supporting documents to facilitate timely submission of VAT refund claims.

·         Enter tax-related data into the tax reporting system and maintain accurate tax records.

·         Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies.

General Services / Other Duties:

·         Ensure full compliance with GIZ Processes and Rules as well as the GIZ Ethiopia National Personnel Policy

·         Organize and archive accounting documents.

·         Prepare correspondence related to supplier payments and tax matters.

·         Carry out other duties and tasks assigned by the Team Leader, as necessary.

·         Participate actively in finance team meetings and collaborative activities.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of the internship, the intern will gain practical experience in:

·         Accounts Payable processing.

·         VAT and Withholding Tax administration.

·         ERP-based financial transaction processing.

·         Financial document verification and reconciliation.

·         Internal controls and compliance.

Month-end accounting procedures and financial reporting.

Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s degree (completed) in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

·         Basic understanding of accounting principles.

·         Knowledge of VAT and Withholding Tax regulations is an advantage.

·         Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.

·         Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP S/4HANA) is an added advantage.

Professional experience

·         Fresh graduate, no occupational experience.
