ABOUT

AACC AACC is a continental ecumenical body that accounts for over 140 million Christians across the African continent. AACC is the largest association of Protestant, Anglican, Orthodox, and Indigenous churches in Africa and is a member of the worldwide ecumenical network. AACC is a fellowship of 205 members comprising of Churches, National Councils of Churches (NCCs), Theological and lay training institutions, and other Christian organizations in 43 African countries. Its vision is “Churches in Africa together for life, peace, justice, and dignity”

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is matrix managed. Under the direct supervision of the Director, Liaison Office to the African Union & Advocacy, and the Finance & Administration Director in the AACC Nairobi Office, the Finance Coordinator will be responsible for the following responsibilities in line with the AACC policies and procedures, Strategic Plan and program and project workplans:

  • Leads the Finance portfolio of the AACC Liaison Office to the African Union
  • Coordinate the financial planning, monitoring and reporting of the programmatic work of the AACC Liaison Office to the African Union including administration.
  • Support finance matters related to the AACC Regional Office in Lomé, Togo, especially for  projects implemented between the two offices,
  •  Guiding and advising programme staff in the implementation of approved budgets and  troubleshooting problems pertaining to finances,
  • Keeping an eye on the office’s income and expenditures, as well as providing support for fund[1]raising efforts of the office,
  •  Being responsible for the reporting of all financial matters (including the financial audit of projects) pertaining to the office and communicating with the Regional Office in Lomé, Togo  on projects that are co-implemented.
  • Liaise with the AACC Head Office in Nairobi on all financial matters of the Liaison Office to the African Union

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Finance Management

  • Coordinating and ensuring the financial management of the Office which includes analysis of  financial performance and funding trends;
  • In collaboration with the programme staff and Director, Liaison Office to the African Union & Advocacy, contribute in the preparation of AACC Annual budget by preparing the annual budgets of the Liaison Office and submit to the AACC Head Office in Nairobi;
  •  Responsible for developing and providing regular and accurate financial overview including financial performance monitoring reports of the various projects and Financial statements ofthe Addis Ababa;
  •  Responsible for the proper handling of Office bookkeeping;
  • Bears main responsibility for the administration and archiving of all finance documents for  projects led by the Addis Ababa Office;
  • Prepares and facilitates the production of projects’ audits reports;
  •  Conducts bank reconciliation on monthly basis or more frequently as required;
  • Ensures compliance with the AACC financial policies, plans, and procedures and donors’ requirements for quality internal control, accountability and performance;
  • Identifies any financial risk areas, analyses, and provides recommendations for mitigations;
  • Supports the finance portfolios for the other AACC offices to which the Liaison Office implements projects with e.g. the AACC Lomé – Togo Office;
  • Liaises with the AACC Finance team in Nairobi, and Lomé offices;
  •  In liaison with the AACC Director of Finance and Administration in Nairobi, develops financial monitoring systems for the Addis Ababa Office in liaison;

Program Finance Coordination (Projects)

  • Leads the programme team in the development of financial reviews of proposals, in accordance with established procedures, including budgets, financial and audits reports, and funds release requests;
  • Assists the program team in monitoring the recommendations and action points arising from the review and analysis of financial project data,
  • Ensures the review and accuracy of all the support documents from programme staff before submission to Nairobi (AACC Head Office);
  • Designs and participates in trainings for programme staff on financial compliance with donor regulations and standards;
  • Conducts and participates in monitoring of projects co-implemented with other AACC departments / offices e.g. the Lomé office;
  • Shares lessons learned and good practices of financial management

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA/BSC Degree in Accounting and Finance or its equivalent
  • Minimum of 7 years relevant experience in international or national NGO’s,
  • Working experience in grant management programs would be advantageous,
  • Proficient with Microsoft Outlook (Excel, Word and Outlook), and any accounting software
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) / Certified Management Accountant (CMA) /CIMA / ACCA would be advantageous.
