Finance Assistant – Assosa, Ethiopia (SCORE Project)

Position Title: Finance Assistant

Location: Assosa, Benishangul Gumuz Region, Ethiopia (Only candidates who are eligible to work
legally without work visa sponsorship in Ethiopia will be considered.)

Job Type: Full-time (40 hours per week) | 1-Year Fixed-Term Contract

Role Overview

Are you an accounting professional looking to make a meaningful social impact? Right To Play is hiring a Finance Assistant for the SCORE Project in Assosa, Ethiopia.

Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, you will provide critical transactional and administrative financial support. You will be responsible for document processing, data entry, petty cash management, payment preparation, and bank reconciliations while maintaining full compliance with organizational financial procedures.


Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Transactions & Documentation (50%)

  • Perform three-way matching (invoice, purchase order, goods received notes) and verify supporting documentation.

  • Prepare, process, and record payments in accordance with financial policies.

  • Maintain organized electronic and hard-copy financial filing systems.

  • Manage daily transaction processing and oversee petty cash operations.

2. Financial Data Entry & Reporting (20%)

  • Record daily cash, bank, journal, and receipt vouchers into the accounting software.

  • Assist the Finance Manager with monthly financial reporting, budget preparation, and forecasting.

  • Conduct budget follow-ups, expenditure verification, and coding accuracy checks.

3. Cash & Bank Operations (15%)

  • Monitor bank transactions, collect statements, and perform monthly bank reconciliations.

  • Process returns on staff advances and conduct regular petty cash spot checks.

  • Support field activity payments during program execution.

4. Compliance & Operations (15%)

  • Audit procurement documents to ensure adherence to procurement policies.

  • Safeguard organizational assets, maintain strict confidentiality, and assist team members with advance requests and financial documentation.


Qualifications & Key Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in financial accounting, grants management, and budgeting.

  • Skills:

    • Proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word.

    • Strong bookkeeping discipline and experience with financial accounting software.

    • Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English and relevant local language(s).

  • Eligibility: Must be legally eligible to work in Ethiopia without sponsorship.
