About the Organization

Established in 1947, the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) of Ethiopia is one of the oldest youth development organizations in the country. Affiliated with the World Alliance of YMCAs and the African Alliance of YMCAs, our core objective is to ensure the well-being of communities and children, with a particular focus on youth through the holistic development of body, mind, and spirit. We collaborate with governmental and non-governmental stakeholders in Addis Ababa and the five regions (Amhara, Oromia, SNNPR, Tigray, and Sidama), and operate ten (10) branch offices nationwide.

Profile Summary

The Finance and Administration Director is the steward of the YMCA’s resources, ensuring financial integrity and operational efficiency in alignment with the Just World and Sustainable Planet pillars. This role is critical for maintaining donor confidence; they are responsible for robust financial controls, compliance with international grant regulations, and transparent reporting. They ensure that the administrative backbone of the organization supports the holistic development of young people by providing stable infrastructure, managing risks, and promoting a culture of accountability.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management & Compliance:

  • Oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, cash flow management, payroll, and procurement.
    • Ensure strict compliance with the financial regulations of international donors and local statutory requirements
    • Lead the preparation of accurate financial reports (budget vs. actual, audits) for the Board and international partners.
    • Lead the annual budgeting process in close collaboration with the Program Director/Manager to ensure programmatic costs are accurately costed.
    • Provide financial analysis to support strategic decisions regarding Meaningful Work and sustainability.

Strategic Budgeting:

  • Administrative Leadership (HR & Governance):
    • Manage the Human Resources functions, ensuring policies are equitable and inclusive, reflecting the YMCA’s commitment to a Just World to the 4 pillars of vision 2030(community wellbeing, Meaningful Work, sustainable planet and Just World.
    • Maintain legal and administrative records, ensuring the organization operates within the legal framework.
    • Manage the organization’s assets and facilities to ensure a safe environment (Space) for youth development.
  • Risk Management:
    • Identify financial and operational risks and implement mitigation strategies.
    • Coordinate internal and external audits.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Master’s degree in accounting and finance, or Business Administration. CPA or ACCA certification is highly preferred.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of senior-level financial management experience in an NGO or international organization.
  • Deep understanding of donor financial reporting requirements (cost principles, allowable costs).
  • Proficiency in accounting software and advanced MS Excel.
  • Strong leadership and ethical integrity.
  • Knowledge on IPSAS and asset Valuation procedures
