  • Duration:          August 15, 2025 – September 30, 2026

Overview of the Project

 The TOV Le’isua project, implemented by the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) in collaboration with the CARE WE-GO Program, aims to improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers with a focus on women engagement, in Sidama and Amhara regions through the adoption of climate-smart, gender-responsive agricultural technologies. Key components include drip irrigation systems, hybrid vegetable production, and women-managed vegetable seedling nurseries.

Position Summary

 The Field Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day implementation and coordination of the TOV Le’Isua Project in the Sidama Region. This includes managing field operations, supporting smallholder farmers—particularly women—with climate-smart agricultural technologies, liaising with government and community stakeholders, and ensuring timely delivery of project activities. The role requires strong technical knowledge in agriculture and irrigation, excellent coordination skills, and a commitment to inclusive, sustainable development.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

1.      Agronomic and Technical Implementation

  • Lead and oversee the establishment and management of Community-based drip irrigation systems, Women-led vegetable seedling nurseries and greenhouses, Demonstration plots at FTCs and model farmer fields.
  • Ensure timely agronomic support and technical training for smallholder farmers on Drip and improved furrow irrigation methods, Seedling propagation and nursery operations, Pest and disease management.
  • Document feedback, best practices, and lessons learned to enhance productivity and relevance of interventions.

2. Program Operations and Coordination

  • Develop and maintain detailed implementation plans, schedules, and resource forecasts.
  • Coordinate with government partners, CARE WE-GO focal persons, local cooperatives, and unions at regional, zonal, woreda, and kebele levels.
  • Oversee the timely delivery of drip kits, seeds, fertilizers, and related inputs.
  • Support the establishment of women economic groups (WEGs) and link them to market and financial systems.
  • Ensure activities align with budget, donor expectations, and TOV Le’isua operational strategy.

3. Capacity Building and Training

  • Identify training needs and organize training for Farmers on agronomic and irrigation best practices and Local stakeholders (DAs, experts) on technologies and nursery management.
  • Facilitate capacity development for WEGs in business, marketing, and cooperative management.

4. Monitoring, Supervision, and Reporting

  • Conduct regular field visits to assess the status and impact of interventions.
  • Provide technical oversight to ensure quality of nursery and production sites.
  • Supervise field officers and collect weekly progress updates; report to JDC HQ.
  • Gather and analyze farmer feedback; propose adaptive changes to improve delivery.
  • Submit timely activity and indicator-based reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly).

5. Administrative and Strategic Support

  • Collaborate with JDC’s logistics, procurement, HR, and finance teams to support timely implementation and compliance.
  • Assist in organizing stakeholder review and planning meetings at local level.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and inclusion across project staff and partners.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned by TOV management.

Key Project Components to Be Managed

  • Installation and maintenance of drip irrigation clusters.
  • Oversight of mini greenhouses for seedling propagation.
  • Onboarding and support of women farmers in drip irrigation.
  • Coordination of training for women farmers and technical stakeholders.
  • Integration of digital tools (ChromePay) for financial tracking and documentation.
  • Establishment of revolving input funds in partnership with unions and cooperatives.

Qualifications and Skills Required

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Agriculture, Agronomy, Rural Development, or related fields.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant field coordination experience in agriculture or rural development.
  • Proven experience working with smallholder farmers, especially women, and managing multi-stakeholder field projects.
  • Familiarity with climate-smart agriculture, irrigation systems, seedling propagation, and extension services.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and team coordination skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with community, government, and NGO stakeholders.
  • Ability to plan, supervise, and monitor multiple field activities across sites.
  • Experience in using digital tools for planning, monitoring, or financial tracking is desirable.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English and Amharic (knowledge of Sidamu Afoo is a plus).
