The Qualitative Data Collector will be responsible for conducting high-quality qualitative data collection activities, including Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), Key Informant Interviews (KIIs), Observations, and other participatory methods.

This role requires individuals who are detail-oriented, ethical, and able to engage communities respectfully. The data collector will work closely with the field supervisors and research coordinators to ensure that all information gathered meets project and ethical standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct FGDs, KIIs, and in-depth interviews with community members and stakeholders.
  • Ensure accurate recording, note-taking, and transcription of qualitative data.
  • Follow research protocols, ethical guidelines, and consent procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism during all data collection activities.
  • Support the translation and transcription of interviews where required.
  • Collaborate with field supervisors to plan daily data collection schedules.
  • Report progress, challenges, and feedback regularly to supervisors.
  • Handle tablets, recorders, or other digital tools responsibly.
  • Participate in training and pilot testing sessions before field deployment.
  • Ensure safe storage and timely submission of all collected data.

About You

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences, Sociology, Anthropology, Social Studies, or related fields.
  • Prior experience conducting qualitative data collection (FGDs, KIIs, etc.) is strongly preferred.
  • Good understanding of community engagement, cultural sensitivity, and ethical research.
  • Fluency in Amharic and at least one other local language (Afan Oromo, Tigrigna, Somali, Afar, etc.).
  • Strong communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel and work in different regions, sometimes under challenging field conditions.
  • Basic knowledge of digital data collection tools is an advantage.
