About the role

Education Development Trust is seeking expressions of interest from qualified consultants in the MENA region to provide technical assistance in foundational learning across multiple contexts for potential opportunities working on the FCDO SCALE (Scaling Access and Learning in Education). SCALE is a central investment by FCDO over four years to improve the effectiveness of the annual $224bn domestic and international budgets to education in LICs and LMICs through catalytic, evidence-informed technical assistance. SCALE is increasing the uptake of cost-effective interventions that deliver foundational learning outcomes for all, especially disadvantaged girls, and boys.

We are looking for experts with proven experience in education program design, curriculum development, teacher management and development, and the design and provision of non-formal and formal education.

Areas of Expertise Required:

Lebanon:

  • Strengthening remedial education and catch up programming in non-formal education settings.
  • Supporting Arabic-medium instruction and curriculum development in early years education.

Regional:

  • Reviewing teaching and learning materials as part of an annual review process to enhance foundational learning approaches and outcomes. Experience of working and coordination with international organizations and education agencies.

Occupied Palestinian Territories (West Bank & Gaza):

  • Enhancing teacher support mechanisms to improve the quality of education delivery and student learning outcomes.

Sudan:

  • Providing technical expertise to review and harmonise non-formal education programming to enhance foundational learning in close consultations with key education in emergencies donors and implementers.

Syria:

  • Syrian nationals that have experience of working with and providing TA to key education agencies (both national and international) to strengthen foundational learning outcomes.

Consultant Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in education program development and technical assistance.
  • Extensive experience of working as a team to co-create sustainable and embedded outputs.
  • Strong knowledge of the international evidence base on what works in large-scale education programming.
  • Proven expertise in foundational learning, curriculum development, and teacher professional development.
  • Experience working with international organizations and other education-focused agencies, including knowledge of programming/funding lifecycles.
  • Ability to work in complex and fragile education systems.
  • Strong research, analytical, and reporting skills.
