Position Title: EPI Zonal Field Coordinator
Location: Zonal Office
Duration of Assignment: 6 months (renewable based on performance and funding availability)
Reporting Line: Reports to Regional EPI Coordinator and other line position as required
Number of Positions: Three
Duty station: Liben zone (Bokolomayo), Afder zone (Hargele), and Dollo zone (Warder)
The EPI Zonal Field Coordinator manages immunization services at the zonal level, coordinating with the project woreda health offices. Responsibilities include planning, executing, and monitoring immunization activities, training health workers, providing all-rounded technical support to the project woredas, and ensuring the availability and proper management of vaccines and cold chain equipment. The role aims to increase immunization coverage, reduce zero doses, and unimmunized children in the targeted woredas.
1. Planning and Coordination
o Lead zonal EPI planning, working with health offices to identify high-priority areas and conduct headcounts of zero-dose and under-immunized children.
o Coordinate documentation of zero-dose children and organize meetings to enhance community immunization awareness.
o Engage with partners and attend zonal technical meetings to improve immunization coverage and demand.
o Represent PAPDA in zonal EPI technical working groups and health cluster meetings, ensuring alignment with regional strategies.
o Coordinate with regional and zonal health offices, and PAPDA staff to ensure smooth project implementation and provide progress updates.
2. Program Implementation, Supply Chain Management, and Capacity building
o Facilitate demand-generation activities, including male and young caregiver engagement, and address gender-related barriers through tailored awareness campaigns and advocacy materials.
o Provide technical support and organize training for health workers, HEWs, and community members on immunization practices, data management, and cold chain equipment maintenance.
o Coordinate PIRI activities, organize sensitization workshops on immunization, and support the establishment of women-to-women support groups and community-based events.
o Support vaccine management, cold chain monitoring, and last-mile delivery in collaboration with zonal health offices, ensuring timely distribution and minimal wastage.
3. Supervision, Monitoring, reporting and Data Management
o Regularly monitor immunization performance metrics, submit monthly and quarterly reports, cold chain status, and gaps, and track output indicators in alignment with the results framework.
o Ensure data collection, analysis, and reporting on immunization data, focusing on high-priority areas and PHCU catchments to support program improvement.
o Coordinate logistics for vaccine transportation, monitor cold chain functionality, and support vaccine stock availability in woredas.
o Supervise immunization activities, conduct regular service delivery assessments, and provide ongoing technical support to ZHDs, woredas, and PHCUs through supervision and review meetings.
o Provide weekly and monthly reports on program performance, challenges, and updates, ensuring timely and effective communication of progress.
o Perform other assignments and responsibilities as assigned by immediate supervisor
o BSC/MPH/MSc in Public Health, Nursing, or related fields of study
o A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in immunization and public health program management, at least 3 year of experience on routine immunization with field experience in EPI coordination.
o Strong knowledge of EPI strategies, cold chain logistics, data analysis, and health information systems.
o Familiar with PIRI and other national-level immunization initiatives
o Able to conduct immunization data analysis and presentation to stakeholders
o Demonstrated experience working within the zone and familiarity within the region
o Proven ability to use adult learning techniques to facilitate training, supportive supervision, and technical assistance
o Strong organizational, management, and communication skills to influence partners and decision-makers at the regional, zonal, and woreda level
o Demonstrated ability to be a team player, to lead teams, and to organize multiple activities simultaneously; ability to communicate and negotiate competing demands on time from managers and work effectively with group of teams.
o Strong leadership, problem-solving, and team management skills; proficient in Microsoft Office and data management tools.
o Computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and familiarity with DHIS2
o Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both the local language and English.
o Willingness and ability to undertake frequent field travel
o Full-time position based in the zonal office, with frequent travel to woreda offices and health facilities.
o Flexibility to work outside regular hours, particularly during PIRI programs, immunization campaigns, or outbreak response.
o The EPI zonal Coordinator must adhere to organizational policies, including the code of conduct, child protection policies, and health and safety regulations. Compliance with ethical standards is mandatory. Training Certificate on humanitarian principles and standards is preferable.
