Job Description

Position Summary:

The main purpose of this position is to lead the technical implementation of overall interventions that are related to non-finance and financial supports needed for the development of new and existing apiculture and complimentary value chain commodity based agribusinesses. These interventions include working with Beekeepers, Private sectors, government and other stakeholder in soliciting resources (finance, land and other resources) needed and creating market access for the establishment and development of new and existing businesses, technical support, supervision, coaching and monitoring, and sustainability actions.

Establish and/or strengthen and closely work with the existing private sector, associations and cooperatives of the apiculture sector and others.

 Duties and Responsibilities

  • Map cluster level existing agribusinesses (beekeepers, pullet growers and other input suppliers, output operators and agro processors).
  • Technically lead the implementation of commercial apiculture and other commodity enterprises development related activities at cluster level.
  • Ensure effective operational planning of business enterprise development related interventions and activities, budgeting, implementation, monitoring and reporting, and communications with cluster coordinator and relevant programs in the organization is in place.
  • Provide training on enterprises development to service beneficiary women and youth in the cluster.
  • Provide technical backstopping to woreda based organizational staffs and woreda level Enterprise development experts and works closely with.
  • Provide and ensures the timely supply of finance and non-finance resources needed by the youth agribusiness enterprises in collaboration with governmental and other stakeholders.
  • In collaboration with cluster coordinator work with commercial banks and Micro finance Institutions to facilitate youth friendly financial services.
  • Establishment and strengthen youth  owned and youth led credit  and saving cooperatives/associations.
  • Facilitate and proved innovation and technology based approach to youth owned or youth led apiculture based agribusiness to transform production, marketing and financial services.
  • Ensure that all ecosystem actors in the cluster are engaged to create enabling environment for the flourishing of apiculture and other commodities based agribusinesses.
  • Ensure Organization Safeguarding policy is effectively implemented and report any form of abuse to the gender and safeguarding officer
  • Conduct other activities as deemed necessary.

Duty Station:  Debre-Birhan with frequent travel to project Woredas and/or kebeles

Job Requirements

Educational Background 

  • BSc/MA/MSc in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Economics, and related field of studies

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 6 years and three years of relevant experience
  • Two       years    of    Agribusiness     enterprise    experience    (working    with    Agribusiness   based cooperatives/enterprise, linking with financial sources and marketing).
  • Experience in CSOs/NGOs
  • Strong understanding and practical experience with good practice in agribusiness development, value chains development, Agricultural commodity based marketing and trade development.
  • Willing to innovate, design and implementable interventions to address major enterprise development bottlenecks at community level

Skills/Knowledge and Competencies

  • Stakeholder management skills, including experience in working with government institutions, development partners, private sector stakeholders and youth agribusiness groups.
  • Demonstrated team player
  • Good communication and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work in and perform under pressure and in a dynamic fast paced environment.
  • Good report writing in English.
  • Basic computer skills.
