Job Description

Good Neighbors International (GNI) is an international humanitarian and development non-governmental organization, operating in 46 countries with a focus on community development and humanitarian program. Its country office, Good Neighbors Ethiopia (GNE) has a 25-year track record of assisting Ethiopia’s most vulnerable and marginalized populations. GNE is present in Ethiopia’s Amhara, Oromia, Benishagul Gumez, Sidama, SNNPR, and Addis Ababa city administration.  GNE is seeking a competent Engineer Consultant so as to supervise and manage the construction activity going on in the organization.

Responsible To: Genera Manager

Term of Employment: Contract of one year with the possibility of extension.

Duty Station(s): Addis Ababa (Head office)

Overview of the Position

The major responsibilities of the Engineer Consultant will be consult all the GNE local project sites for construction proposal, prepare Bill of Quantity, supervise bid process in coordination of regarding local project site and visit the construction site in order to inspect and approve the quality of all construction materials and skills delivered by the contractor.

  • Consult all the GNE local project sites for construction proposal.
  • Give professional advice to the management regarding the construction case.
  • Supervise bid process in coordination of regarding local project site.
  • Prepare Bill of Quantity.
  • Presence at the construction site and follow up all the implementation done by construction contractor.
  • Shall promptly inform the contractor and the organization any error, omission, fault and other defect in the construction of the works deviating from the decision or specification of the work.
  • Preparing the payment certificate, progress report and follow up the activity till it will be finalized.
  • Visit the construction site in order to inspect and approve the quality of all construction materials and skills delivered by the contractor.
  • Certify that the contracted retention work and associated components of the construction has been completed according to contract specification and in compliance with the quality control testing standards. In case of non-conforming component of structure, advise GNE on proposed corrective actions.
  • Upon certification of successful construction completion, submit a report (both in English and Amharic) to GNE.

Job Requirements

  • University degree (BSc Civil Engineer and Construction Technology and Management).
  • 5 years relevant work experience in contraction supervision and management.
  • Excellent time and project management skills is mandatory
  • Experience in similar type of projects/engagement.
  • Adequate knowledge of construction procurement methods and procedures.
  • Substantial knowledge of the development and evaluation of engineering design and construction contracts, bill of quantities and specifications.

Required Languages – Excellent in English and Amharic

Skills:

  • Good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated capacity to undertake assigned responsibilities and work under pressure;
  • Ability to work as a team;
  • Commitment to the “No- harm” policy;
  • Familiarity with construction management software packages like Ms-Project and Primavera
  • Well organized, attention to detail, and have some analytical skills;
  • NGO experience is an asset;
  • Analytic and strategic thinking;
