Emergency Livelihood & Food Security Project Coordinator – Afar

Dan Church Aid (DCA) is a Denmark-based international NGO registered under certificate # 1083 by the Authority for Civil Society Organizations and working to improve the wellbeing of particularly the rural and pre-urban people in Ethiopia. DCA’s Programme mainly focus on save live, building resilience and fighting inequality targeting highly disaster-prone areas in Oromia, Amhara, Afar, and Gambella regions.

DCA Ethiopia Office is looking for a competent Emergency Livelihood & Food Security Project Coordinator based in Afar.

Overall Objective of the Job

Contribute to the successful design and implementation of DCA Ethiopia’s Triple Nexus, Climate Change Impact, Fresh food, Multipurpose, and livelihood interventions in Afar both for refugees and the host communities.

Purpose

  • Play key role in coordinating the implementation of 2 DANID and BPRM funded projects in Afar.
  • Provide an ongoing technical support for the front-line staff and project stakeholders particularly related to Livelihood, and Climate Change impact activities.

Engagement

  • Lead community-based beneficiary targeting and verification and ensure that the targeting and registration is done in line with project focus and agreed targeting criteria for fresh food and cash assistance.
  • Closely follow up the technical quality of the work at camp and host community level the 2 DANIDA and BPRM projects.
  • Ensure the establishment of VSLA, SHG, DRR Committee closely follow-up.
  • Ensure on going capacity building support provided to livelihood beneficiaries.
  • Closely support and ensure the sustainable project activities in Afar.
  •  Ensure strong partnership with stakeholders (livelihood, APTF, CWG, and DRM, Protection) etc.
  • Closely support sharecropping, goat fattening, beekeeping, and self-help groups, watershed management, DRR groups and beneficiaries.
  • Develop detail implementation plan for livelihood and fresh food voucher activities and SOPs are implemented timely.
  • Produce and share quality reports.
  • Actively engage in humanitarian need assessment in the area on regular bases and share with field office and humanitarian team at country office as deemed as necessary.

Delivery

  • Ensure that all livelihood, food security, social cohesion, and climate change impact projects activities are implemented in accordance with donor requirements and as per the quality standard and agreed detail implementation.
  • Ensure a proper M&E plan is in place for each project and roll out through the project implementation period.
  • As the 2 DANIDA, and BPRM funded projects holder, be accountable for all aspects of financial and resource management.

Job Requirements

  • Master/bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Animal Science, plant Science or nutrition with at least 2 years of relevant experience for master’s degree or 4 years for Bachelor degree in related field.
  • Practical experience in coordinating food security projects.
  • Practical experience in nutrition intervention and skill to organized training for field staff on nutrition.
  • Experience of working in complex emergency and insecure environments in a refugee setup.
  • Proven experience in project management and budget tracking.
  • Experience of developing and implementing programs funded by DANIDA and/ BPRM is an advantage.
  • Significant experience in supervising teams, and a proven ability to provide support, guidance, and training to local staff.
  • Experience in writing high quality progress report.
