Job Description

Main Purpose of Job

The Driver is Accountable to CCP and will work cooperatively with the MCF Project staff members assigned for the region.

Major Responsibilities

  •  Provide driving service to the MCF Project Ethiopia staff with due care & attention.
  • Provides driving service to guests and visitors of the MCF Project Ethiopia staff as instructed
  •  Settles telephone, water and electricity bills of the MCF Project Ethiopia office on time if required
  • Performs purchases as instructed
  • Keeps the vehicle clean and amiable for travel
  • Service vehicles according to the established preventive maintenance schedule
  • Ascertains the roadworthiness of the vehicle
  • Rotate and balance tires; change oil and filters; lubricate vehicle parts; inspect and replace hoses, belts, mirrors, lamps; and maintain all fluid levels.
  • Maintains and fixes minor mechanical problems in the vehicle
  •  Follows up on the periodic service and maintenance schedule of the vehicle
  • Ensure the 3rd party and other insurance coverage are intact
  •  Keeps a logbook and records travel detail of the vehicle consistently & ensure the Daily Movement Sheets (log books) are signed by the user each day
  •  Distributes and collects messages to and from different organizations as instructed
  •  When damage, theft or accident occurs on or by the vehicle immediately inform the respected region with adequate particulars
  • Assists the staff of the BA Project Ethiopia staff whenever requested
  •  Performs any other related duties as and when requested.

Place of work: Amhara Region based in Bahir Dar and Oromia Region based in Jimma

Required no. 1 (one) for each region Duration of Employment:1 year with possible extension

Job Requirements

Knowledge, skills and experience required 

  •  Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs with general supervision
  • Ability to operate equipment and tools involved in vehicle repair
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts
  • Ability to pass required driver safety training

Experience:

  • Five years’ work experience as a driver mechanic
  • NGO experience and Mechanical Experience are an advantage
  • Experience in an NGO environment, and with very good experience in driving four-wheel drive (4WD)/field vehicles in the rural parts of the country Diploma in Auto-mechanics is an advantage
  • Valid 3rd-grade driving license. 10th – 12th grade complete.
  • Ability to communicate in English languages, being local language speaker is advantageous
