Job Description

The Driver/Liaison Assistant in Addis Ababa will contribute to the calling of of Medical Teams Intby ensuring the safe transportation of authorized goods and passengers. The role involves supporting staff through day-to-day services, ensuring the vehicle’s technical and safety conditions are maintained, and adhering to the country’s traffic regulations.The post holder will carryout liason actitvies whenever requested by the office.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate vehicle according to Medical Teams’ fleet management policies and Ethiopia road regulations to ensure the safety and security of passengers (patients, staff, volunteers, guests).
  • Support the nurse in administering first aid and additional interventions to support patient health during an emergency.
  • Identify maintenance needs and immediately alert supervisor of any conditions of concern before transporting passengers.
  • Transport the vehicle to appointed vendor facilities for approved maintenance and repairs to be completed (e.g. oil change, washing bay, etc.).
  • Record all movements in the vehicle logbook and submit weekly inspection reports as per schedule
  • Ensure the vehicle always has sufficient fuel.
  • Ensure passengers use appropriate safety restraints while the vehicle is in motion.
  • Ensure correct loading and unloading of vehicle, verify status of delivered goods against required documents, submit documents to receiver of goods and return completed documents to the Operations department.
  • Ensure all passengers have the necessary papers in order before travelling.
  • Maintain vehicles for cleanliness and keep free of debris.
  • Routinely inventory vehicle emergency and first aid supplies and report need to supervisor
  • Follow Medical Teams medical emergency procedures and evacuate passengers according to policy and complete written accident report in case of accidents and emergencies,
  • Assisting with documentation, and performing other liaison-related duties as assigned.
  • Ensure that up to date vehicle and driver documents are in the vehicle as required.
  • Participate in safety and defensive driving training.
  • Map out driving routes in advance to determine the most convenient trip.
  • Pick up clients from the place and at the time they’ve requested.
  • Collect payments and issue receipts and support the Country Office in all departments as required by representing Medical Teams in different Government organizations.
  • Assist clients with loading and unloading their luggage.
  • Listen to traffic and weather reports to stay up to date on road conditions.
  • Ensure the car seats are clean and comfortable for all riders.
  • Schedule regular car service appointments and report any issues.
  • Book car wash and detailing services to maintain interior and exterior cleanliness of the car.
  • Handle confidential matters with due care & in consultation with senior staff.
  • Ensure safety of all passengers in a car by insuring Ensuring that passengers & drivers wear seat belt.
  • Ensure & respect all traffic rules, speed limit & safety & security of area.
  • Ensure safety of road before departing from compound or origin & get approval from line manager.
  • Maintain log sheet for all trips, taking & obtain signature of passenger. do any duties assigned by line manager

Other Duties:

  • Support safeguarding of program participants and employees through promoting an environment of awareness and upholding the code of conduct provisions of Medical Teams Protection from Sexual Exploitation & Abuse, Child & Vulnerable Adult protection, and harassment-free workplace policies. Incumbents will remain alert and responsive to any child and adult safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child and adult safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Safeguarding.
  • Utilize volunteers when appropriate.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
About You

Required:

  • Completion of high school Certificate or Grade 10 Level Certificate in the new curriculum.
  • Grade 3 Driving License /Possession of a valid Ethiopian driving License Grade:1(Public 1).
  • Certification in defensive driving from a recognized institution is required.
  • Certification in First Aid is required.
  • Preferred: Certification in vehicle mechanics and maintenance is an added advantage

EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • Minimum 3 years of heavy vehicle driving in Ethiopia is required.
  • Clean driving record is required.

Preferred:

  • Experience driving an ambulance and working with an international NGO is an added advantage.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge:

  • In-depth knowledge of road safety regulations and defensive driving techniques
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics and maintenance; First Aid and CPR

Skills:

  • Excellent defensive driving skills
  • Skilled in administering First Aid and CPR
  • Skilled in identifying maintenance issues.
  • Excellent skill in auto mechanics
  • Good knowledge of fire extinguisher manipulation
  • Detail oriented by humanitarian principles and emergency respond operations.
  • problem solving skills, prioritization, and time management.
  • Strong vehicles technical skills, ability to work independently and under pressure.

Abilities:

  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations to prioritize patient care
  • Physically fit and able to load vehicles
  • Ability to keep detailed records and write reports
  • Ability to follow procedures in response to accidents or emergency situations
  • Ability to support MTI Calling and adhere to the MTI Code of Conduct
  • Professional, courteous, punctual
