Job Description

BACKGROUND:

The Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Institute (ATI), formerly known as the Agricultural Transformation Agency (ATA), is a strategy and delivery-oriented government institute created to help accelerate the growth and transformation of Ethiopia’s agriculture sector, which is a key contributor to the country’s GDP, exports, Systems and capacities of the workforces. The ATI’s focuses on improving the livelihoods of smallholder farmers, pastoralists, internally displaced people (IDPs), recovering people affected by conflict and other across the country for improved income, inclusiveness, resilience, and sustainability.

The ATI works to transform the agriculture and rural development in Ethiopia by conducting analytical studies in the policy and programmatic areas, piloting innovative agricultural technologies and systems , creating jobs to youth and women along the value chain providing technical implementation support, linking actors along the value-chains and attracting foreign direct investment who can work with cluster farmers, implementing problem based, inclusive and sustainable innovative projects and programs and building capacities of diverse players along the transformation continuum.

The Institute joins forces with various stakeholders, like MoA and other affiliate Institutions of the Ministry, policymakers, researchers, farmers, and development partners, to support the implementation of agricultural development programs and initiatives. In addition, the ATI collaborates with national and international partners to facilitate knowledge exchange, learning opportunities and resources mobilization.

The Institute plays a crucial role primarily in supporting agricultural policy and strategies development to drive transformation of agriculture and rural development; facilitate knowledge exchange, generating and disseminating information to support evidence-based policy formulation and decision-making and pilot innovative projects to be scaled nationwide.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The driver is responsible for the operation of all projects and various vehicles and for the safe and orderly transportation of passengers and goods to and from their destination. The driver will be responsible for daily inspection of vehicle status, fuelling, interior and exterior cleaning of the vehicle, maintaining accurate trip records, and assisting the user team. He/she should have good communication skills, be available at any time and any other related duties as assigned by the logistic officer. Submit monthly reports to the Logistic.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspect the vehicle daily before beginning the route.
  • Follow a prescribed checklist in reviewing the vehicle’s operational and safety features; record all repair needs/problems on the checklist and report findings requiring immediate attention to the mechanic.
  • Completes check of all fluids and maintains proper level.
  • Maintain cleanliness inside and outside of transit vehicles as required.
  • Maintains accurate daily trip logs and provides necessary data.
  • Completes all records daily and follows reporting procedures as required.
  • Uses sound and email judgment in following dispatch instructions, being able to recognize, create, and follow logical sequences for pickup and drop-off of passengers in an efficient manner.
  • Able to operate communication devices and keep regular contact with the dispatcher.
  • Observes all traffic laws, especially those related to public transportation; ensures that all passengers wear seat belts and mobility aids are properly secured and follow safety regulations.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of passenger information.
  • Ability to drive a variety of passenger vehicles, including but not limited to vans, minivans, conversion vans, hardtop, and automobiles, that may be diesel or gasoline.
  • Must follow emergency procedures as instructed by Logistic Manager or Dispatcher.

Required qualifications, competencies, skills, training and experience:

  • Diploma/Certificate in Auto mechanic and Valid minimum of 3rd grade driving license.
  • Minimum 2 years of driving experience, with a good driving record.
  • Good skills in driving and safely and properly handling vehicles and goods
  • Able to perform all duties associated with operating a vehicle.
  • Must be able to accept and follow detailed instructions.
  • Economical driving skills and good backgrounds
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, and against strict time constraints.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and perform other duties as required and as assigned by the senior logistics manager or dispatcher.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, relationship-building, developing/ maintaining contacts, and working with staff within and outside the Institute.
  • Willingness and experience in traveling to different parts of the country.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) in English and Amharic (knowing regional languages is mandatory).
