CLM II – Climate-sensitive innovations for land management II

Since 2008, the Ethiopian government, namely the Ministry of Agriculture, operates the Sustainable Land Management (SLM) program to reverse land degradation and increase agricultural productivity in the highlands. The SLMP aims at reaching two million households in more than 7,000 micro-watersheds in Amhara, Benishangul Gumuz, Gambella, Oromia, SNNP and Tigray.

GIZ provides technical assistance to this national flagship program since its inception, at national, regional and local levels. This project seeks to institutionalize Integrated Landscape Management (ILM) at national, regional, and local levels to enhance living conditions in rural areas in four regions (Oromia, South Ethiopia, Central Ethiopia and Sidama)

The underlying hypothesis is that effective institutionalization and increased implementation of ILM will yield more sustainable natural resource use and protection, thereby improving the livelihoods and nutritional status of the rural population, particularly in the face of climate change. ILM is crucial for supporting those reliant on natural resources, contributing to food security for the Ethiopian population.

Furthermore, Community empowerment of local institutions for the further development and implementation of community-oriented and community-based ILM approaches is crucial. This includes strengthening the bottom-up influence of these actors at national and regional government levels. The impact hypothesis is that community empowerment will increase the ownership of municipalities, local decision-makers, and interest groups, thereby strengthening the institutional anchor of ILM

• Drive staff/partners/guests/consultants in program vehicles.
• Assist in transporting of goods and driving service for delivery of letters, documents etc.
• Maintain logbook correctly and comprehensively according to GIZ transport policy.
• Use all available sources for information on road conditions, especially for longer field trips.
• Ensure the orderly operation and cleanliness of programme/agency vehicles.
• Prepare the mileage charges for private and/or another program.
• Manage the maintenance of program vehicles.
• Reports maintenance and repair needs to superior.
• Deal with bank issues, delivery of correspondence and documents to the premises of program partners and other organizations.
• Support the preparation, transfer, assembly and dismantling of materials and equipment for different program workshops and/or meetings.
• Serves all passengers in a friendly manner.
• Purchase small items using petty cash and provide support in obtaining bids for procurements.

Performs other duties and tasks at the request of management

Qualifications

• Recognised secondary school leaving qualification
• 3rd grade driving licence
• Defensive driving skills
• Basic knowledge of general mechanics
• Ability to pass driving test (visual and practical)
• No history of major accidents within the last 5 years

Professional experience

• Being familiar with operational areas in South Ethiopia region specifically in Lake Chamo catchment.
• Good communication skills
• Basic knowledge of MS Office and skilled internet user
• Minimum of 6 years of professional experience
