Background on CAWEE:

The Center for Accelerated Women’s Economic Empowerment (CAWEE) was established in 2004, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, as a Non-Profit, Trade Promotion, Membership organization of women in export registered under the Chambers Law, Ministry of Trade. CAWEE provides different support services to women involved in Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) with a focus to women in export.

CAWEE closely works with different development partners and funding organizations, like: Governments (USA, Canada, Japan, India, Netherlands and Germany), UNDP, UNIDO, UN Women. Currently, CAWEE has started aggressively working on the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement, starting being operational beyond Ethiopia, with the ultimate proposes of expanding the export bases within the African Continent and beyond.

In providing technical skills/marketable skills to disadvantaged women (returnees, refugees, out casted community members, internally displaced women, women with disabilities), in the past years, CAWEE has provided trainings in basic technical skills, where following the skills training, employment opportunities were created to women. And also Currently, CAWEE is involved in Collaboration with Mastercard foundation targeting skills and facilitating decent & fulfilling job opportunities to female youth.

Program Background:

CAWEE, Promoting Economic Transition to Circular Options Ethiopia (PETCO Ethiopia) and Ethiopian Enterprise Development (EED), in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, are implementing a five-year project entitled “Mabqat ”. The program aims to:

Build SMEs capacities to sustainably create new jobs and improve existing ones through offering tailored business capacity building and mentorship services; enhancing access to markets and raw materials flow; and improving SMEs’ human resources capacity to create safe and inclusive working conditions for young women and men.

Improve Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) offerings to better prepare women and youth to enter the workforce (facilitate school-to-work transition).

Facilitate a Robust Financial Ecosystem to help SMEs access tailored financial services that allow them to grow and increase employment opportunities for young women in particular, and to invest in infrastructure that can improve young women’s and men’s working conditions.

Strengthen the Enablers (Ecosystem) to foster private sector engagement, stakeholder coordination synergy, and policy development for sustainable and scalable job growth.

 

Job Description and Key Responsibilities

1. Driver for the ‘Mabqat program’ in Addis Ababa and out of city with a willingness to travel to field locations,
2. Responsible for providing safe and reliable transportation services for project staff, materials, and equipment.
3. Ensuring the successful implementation of project activities by facilitating travel to various project sites, meetings, and events.
4. Involved in supporting field operations and logistics coordination, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the project.
5. Safely operate project vehicles, including cars, vans, or trucks, to transport project staff, equipment, and materials to field locations and project sites across Cities.
6. Adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations, as well as project safety policies, to ensure the safety of passengers and cargo during travel to field areas.
7. Plan travel routes and schedules in coordination with project staff, considering factors such as road conditions, distance, and timing, to ensure timely arrival at field destinations.
8. Assist project staff and visitors with loading and unloading of luggage, equipment, and supplies, ensuring proper handling and securing of items within the vehicle.
9. Conduct routine pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to check for any mechanical issues, damages, or safety hazards, and report any discrepancies to the appropriate supervisor.
10. Maintain cleanliness and organization of project vehicles, both internally and externally, by regularly cleaning and tidying the vehicle and ensuring proper disposal of waste.
11. Keep accurate records of vehicle mileage, fuel consumption, maintenance activities, and transportation logs, and submit regular reports to the project management team.
12. Coordinate vehicle maintenance and repairs with authorized service providers as needed, ensuring that vehicles are in good working condition for field travel.
13. Assist with other logistical tasks and administrative duties as assigned by the project management team to support field operations and project implementation.
14. Respect and abide by the laws, code of conduct, policies, rules and regulation of the Center currently in force and any new ones that may be introduce during employee’s tenure of service.
15. Perform other duties as assigned by the program director to support the overall success and impact of the project.

Required Qualifications:

• Valid Ethiopian driver’s license with a clean driving record drives both manual and automatic transmission vehicles safely and proficiently.
• At least 3–5 years of professional driving experience, preferably with NGOs, development projects, or international organizations.
• Proven experience as a driver, preferably in a similar role within the development sector or for international organizations.
• Good knowledge of local road networks, traffic regulations, and safety practices in Ethiopia, especially in rural and remote areas.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact courteously and professionally with project staff and stakeholders.
• Strong time management and organizational abilities, with the capacity to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines, especially during field travel.
• Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance, with the ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
• Flexibility and adaptability to work irregular hours and travel extensively to field locations across Ethiopia as required by project activities.
• Respect for confidentiality and adherence to ethical standards in all aspects of work.
• Good in English and proficiency in Amharic or other local languages is preferred.
• Willingness to travel out of capital city as required for project activities
