Job Description

TEAM PURPOSE:  
 
The Logistics Team is part of the business support team accountable for ensuring that all operation  procedures of Administration and Logistics are adhered to and implemented in a manner that is  compliant with Oxfam policies, standards and procedures.  In particular, the team provides professional,  business focused service on logistics, delivering proactive and solutions-based approach for resolving issues. The team will also ensure that the operational business requirements are effectively managed  to deliver organisational results and support the achievement of programme outcomes. Delivering  Oxfam GB Programme in Gambella which aims to contribute to the south Sudanese refugee WASH  Reponses.

The Driver is responsible to work as part of the logistics team and their main purpose is to ensure the
safe conveyance of staff and supplies/materials/equipment to authorized destinations.  They are
responsible for proper vehicle use, cleanliness/hygiene, roadworthiness and advise the line managers
if there are concerns/issues that should be reviewed or fixed in the vehicles.   Security and safety in the
vehicles are very important and therefore, any information needed/available in this regard should be
provided to passengers and line managers.

The Role:

Driving 

• Drive at a speed which is adjusted to the road and weather conditions, and to drive with
consideration for the safety of the passengers, other road users, the load, and the technical state
of the vehicle.
• Ensure maximum speed limit (80KM/Hr.) is not passed at all times.
• Wear a seat belt and ensuring that all passengers also wear their seatbelts at all times when the
vehicle is in motion.
• Decide whether or not to attempt to cross a difficult section of road, to continue after a technical
defect has been detected, or to delay the travel.
• Immediately notify his superior as well as the local authorities in case of any accident in which
he is involved.
• Place the car keys on the dashboard when the car is parked.
• Support staff members including but not limited to Finance, Logistics, Human Resources and
programmes in the dispatching and collecting of wide range of documents, assets and materials
as and when required.
• Ensure the timely maintenance of the store building and all equipment related to safe store
keeping.

Administration 

• Keep his/her driving license valid and ready for inspection.
• Make sure all necessary vehicle documents (e.g. insurance, registration documents, etc.) are
present in the vehicle and up to date
• Ensure that they have the necessary travel permits and documents for each journey.
• Correctly fill in the vehicle logbook with details of each journey.
• suppliers and others.

General 

• Ensure correct loading and unloading of the vehicle considering the maximum loading capacity,
proper distribution and securing of the load.
• Keep the vehicle assigned to him clean and road-worthy
• Refuel the vehicle whenever necessary or when the level get below half of the tank capacity.
• Carry out the necessary daily and weekly check-ups as specified in (programme transport or
vehicle policy)
• Ensure the safe parking, whenever possible in an Oxfam compound, of the vehicle at night,
during breaks and when it is not in use.
• Verify the presence at all time in the car of the vehicle log book, discharge of responsibility forms,
the tools and spare parts as mentioned and signed for by him/her in the log book, a complete
first aid kit and spare tyre(s) in good condition.
• Be aware of radio procedures and operation, and to act as a mobile radio operator with the
vehicle.
• Perform any other duties as requested by his/her manager.

An ideal candidate for the role will also be / have:

Essential
• Secondary school education or equivalent (at least).
• Experience of 5 years as a driver in an international organisation and experience in driving four
heel drive vehicles.
• Good maneuvering skill of 4WD vehicles.
• Have a valid driving license Grade 3 and above.
• Auto mechanics training and ability to conduct minor repairs.
• Proven experience of driving in terrain conditions and mountainous areas.
• Matured, hardworking, enthusiastic, and helpful to people.
• Share Oxfam’s development values, especially, gender sensitivity and respect for all.
• Good command of written and spoken English.
• Ability to adjust to changing situations while maintaining focus on delivery and follow-through
Desirable
• Knowledge of the field of international development and human rights
• Knowledge of Oxfam systems in Driving
