POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a qualified and motivated Disability Communication Focal Person to ensure that all communication products and platforms are accessible, inclusive, and aligned with disability rights principles. The successful candidate will play a key role in removing communication barriers and promoting equal access to information for people with impairment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership on Inclusive Communication

  • Lead the integration of disability-inclusive approaches across all internal and external communication strategies.
  • Ensure all messaging aligns with disability rights principles and promotes dignity, equality, and non-discrimination.
  • Ensure meaningful participation of people with impairment in communication design, delivery, and feedback processes
  • Deliver training sessions and provide ongoing guidance to staff on inclusive communication practices.

Accessible Content Development & Quality Assurance

  • Oversee the development and adaptation of communication materials into accessible formats (e.g., braille, audio, easy-to-read, captioned video).
  • Ensure all digital content complies with accessibility standards (e.g accessible documents, subtitles).
  • Review and approve communication outputs to ensure accessibility and inclusion standards are met.

Coordination of Accessibility Services

  • Plan and coordinate sign language interpretation, captioning, and other accessibility services for events, training, and public communications.
  • Ensure accessibility requirements are identified early and integrated into planning and budgeting processes.

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning

  • Develop and track indicators to measure accessibility and inclusiveness of communication outputs.
  • Conduct periodic accessibility audits of materials and platforms.
  • Document lessons learned and recommended improvements to strengthen inclusive communication practices

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Sociology, or Social Science related field
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in communications, with a focus on disability inclusion or accessibility.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven experience developing accessible communication materials.
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Requirements

  • Language: Amharic, English. (knowing other languages will be preferable)
  • Complying FDRE MESOB code of ethics
  • Knowing sign language and braille reading and writing
